In-Person Training

Each of the 16 partner sites will be sending 2 educators to the in-person training in Saint Paul, MN. This training workshop will be April 27-29, and will likely require April 26 and 30 to be travel days for out-of-town participants. TPT (SciGirls) will be arranging flight and hotel arrangements for participants that do not live within driving distance. On-site parking will be available for local participants in the Lowertown Parking Ramp attached to TPT.

This workshop will consist of 3 full days of hands-on training with the technology that will be used during the SciGirls Code 9 month program.

Hotel

The hotel is located across the street from Twin Cities PBS (TPT), where the training will be held. SciGirls staff will be in the lobby of the hotel at 8 am Thursday morning to walk everyone over to the training.

• Reservations have been made in your name (if you are an out of town participant), under the SciGirls/Twin Cities PBS group reservation. If you encounter any problems while checking into the hotel, please call or text me (Katie) 757-272-3866
• You will be required to provide a personal credit card at check-in. This is for room incidentals only (like movie rentals, room service, damage, etc.). The cost of the room and taxes will be paid by Twin Cities PBS.
• Please be sure to get breakfast early enough on Thursday so that you will be ready to meet in the hotel lobby at 8 am.

Travel to/from the training

• If you are driving:
  • Please keep track of your mileage. We will reimburse you for mileage. I will have mileage forms for you at the training.
  • If you are driving from out of town, and staying at the hotel, you can park in the hotel parking. We will cover the cost of this parking.
  • If you are a local participant, you will park in the Lowertown Parking Ramp (which is attached to Twin Cities PBS). We will have parking vouchers for you (you will use the voucher as payment for parking when you exit).
• If you are flying:
  • You should already have all of your flight information.
  • Keep receipts for checked baggage fees. We will reimburse you for this.
  • You are responsible for finding transportation from the airport to the hotel. The hotel does not have a shuttle, but it is very easy to take a taxi. Keep your receipt, we will reimburse you for this. Please carpool when possible.

Thursday (day 1 of training):

• Local Participants-
  • Please park in the Lowertown Parking Ramp (see above). Take the parking ramp elevator or stairs to level 5- you will see a large Sesame Street Mural in the hallway- this will bring you to the main lobby of Twin Cities PBS. A SciGirls staff member will meet you in the Twin Cities PBS lobby between 8:00 am and 8:10 am and show you where we will be having the training.
• Hotel Guests
  • Please be in the hotel lobby, ready to go, at 8am. SciGirls Staff (Leah and Karen) will walk you over to Twin Cities PBS (it is directly across the street from the hotel). Once you are in Twin Cities PBS, SciGirls staff will have to escort you up to where the training is being held.
• Coffee, lunch, and snacks will be provided throughout the day. We will also have a group dinner Thursday evening that will go until approximately 8 PM.

Computers:

Each of the 16 partner sites will be bringing 3 laptop computers back with them at the end of the training. Please plan for this when packing. Computers can not be checked in your luggage- they must be taken as a carry-on. Remember that we will be reimbursing you for any other luggage you have to check.
