How to Implement

• Rather than resist the temptation to play embrace it! Start out the discussion by introducing Sphero briefly.
  • Show the 3D model diagram of Sphero in the Sphero EDU app
  • Show how and where to charge Sphero (the battery lasts for about an hour so be sure to charge it during breaks).
  • Explain how to:
    • care for/clean Sphero.
    • pair Sphero and the tablet.
    • align Sphero towards you for driving.
• Have girls form teams of three or four and choose roles. Allow some open exploration time with Sphero. Set a timer to rotate roles so that everyone gets a chance to drive and change Sphero’s colors.
• Once you have given them enough time to get footing with Sphero, pass out materials to each group for the chance cubes activity.
• Explain to them that the cube shows different challenges for them to accomplish with Sphero. Each person in their group will get to roll the cube and complete the challenge that shows up. Everybody in the group can help the driver solve the challenge. If they get stuck, they can roll again. They will repeat this until each group has completed all of the challenges or runs out of time.
• Have the girls draw a table in their design journal to keep track of which challenges they’ve done. They may not get through all of them during the allotted time, but can come back to this activity if they have downtime.
