The Elks National Foundation  has kicked off the 2027 scholarship contests. Here are the details!

Most Valuable Student  Contest:

The 2027 MVS application is now open. Applications can be found online at enf.elks.org/MVS. The application deadline is November 12, 2026. 

The Elks National Foundation  awards 500 four-year scholarships based on academics, leadership, and financial need. National awards range from $1,000 to $7,500 per year. The national awards will be announced in April 2027.  Local judging will begin December 2, 2026; applicants chosen will be forwarded to the state.

MVS scholarships are for high school seniors who plan to pursue a four-year degree on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), at a U.S. college or university starting in 2027-28. Some important applicant details include:

«  Current high school seniors (or equivalent) who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.

«  Applicants do not have to be related to a member of the Elks.

«  Male and female students compete separately. 

Applicants select from a list of the Lodges closest to their home address zip code. Please have your students choose Houma Elks Lodge #1193 as their sponsoring Lodge. It should be the closest to their zipcode Complete details can be found at enf.elks.org/MVS.

Legacy Awards – The Legacy Awards contest opens on September 1, 2026. Legacy Awards provide $6,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of dues-paying Elk members. The ENF offers a total of 400 national awards. The application deadline is February 1, 2027. Please visit enf.elks.org/Leg for more details and the application link.

An Elks scholarship is more than financial aid; it’s an invitation to a network of service-minded peers and a promise that an Elks Lodge is always there with open arms.

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION:

The Cirkled In "No Sweat" Scholarship awards $2,500 quarterly to high school students. True to its name, it removes the barriers that keep students from applying at all. Students complete a simple online application in under 5 minutes. Open to all U.S. high school students in grades 9-12 (homeschooled students are included too).

We'd also encourage you to take a look at our past scholarship winners - their stories range from immigrant students to farm workers to students juggling three jobs during high school. This scholarship has made a real impact in these students' lives, and we'd love to continue that with your help.

VFW Scholarships:

- Voice of Democracy: An audio-essay program for grades 9-12. This year’s theme is "What a Veteran Taught Me About America." National prizes include scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $35,000.

- Patriot’s Pen: An essay contest (300-400 words) for grades 6-8. This year’s theme is also "What a Veteran Taught Me About America." National awards total over $1 million, with a top prize of $5,000.

Students may submit applications and entries via the Scholar’s App or by delivering hard copies directly to our VFW Post. The deadline for all submissions is October 31st.
