Art Club (6-12)- Part 2

Description: Students will choose from weekly art challenges, have daily sketchbook prompts, and share artwork on Padlet. Weekly zoom meetings will include time for students to share and critique artwork, possible guest speakers, a virtual field trip, and much more! Come celebrate the arts with us! Supplies will be provided.

Beginners Drawing (4-8) - Part 2

Description: Beginning drawing will introduce some basic concepts to show students how to start drawing artistically. We will explore still life, one point perspective, and animation basics. Supplies needed are blank white paper (sketch paper is best for a variety of reasons), sharpened pencils, a good eraser, and a straight edge such as a ruler. Colors will not be needed during class time, but may be wanted as an extension. This is week two of this two-week course.

Book Club: Fantasy (4-6) - Part 2

Description: Are you a Book Dragon? Do you love reading books filled with magic? Then join our Fantasy Book Club for 4th and 5th graders. We will be learning about what special features make books part of the fantasy genre, discovering where to find books online and sharing our favorite titles with each other. You can choose to read any fantasy book(s) you want throughout the two weeks. If you love to talk about books and meet new friends this is the class for you!

Book Club: Study of Andrew Clements (3-5) *Frindle* - Part 2

Description: During this four-week course we will dive into two books written by Andrew Clements. We will learn what a Frindle is in the first two weeks, and then adventure into the Landry News in weeks three and four. Participants will be provided with a copy of each book in order to read along. We will meet on Zoom three times a week to share our thoughts, opinions, and become better readers!

Book Club: Study of Louis Sacher (3-6) *Holes* - Part 2

Description: This summer we will follow the journey of Stanley Yelnats, who has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, to build character. Then, we will follow Bradley Chalkers, the kid that no one likes and always tells lies, as he tries to change! We will discuss the different characters in the books and create social media posts from their perspective on Instagram and Snapchat. We will also try to summarize parts of the book using different resources, including ideas from Tiktok! See how we can connect reading and social meia and have a blast this summer! This is the second week in this four-week course.

Coding - Elementary (grades 2-3) - Part 1

Description: This session is designed for students in grades two and three who have been exposed to coding or beginners. Students will focus on coding skills of loops, loop nesting and repeats, functions and easy variables. They will learn these concepts while they play games that reinforce focused learning. This course is a two-week course, with this week being the first part.

Coding - Secondary (6-8) - Part 1

Description: : This session is scaffolded to meet students at their skill levels. We will be working with Javascript, and Python with how it relates to creating games. There will also be challenge cards and competitions in which the students can participate. This is a fun class where students can work at their own pace. Zoom meetings are held to provide enough instruction to get started and to offer students an opportunity to ask questions. This course is a two-week course, with this week being the first part.

Elementary Book Club (1-3)

Description: Do you love books? Can’t get enough of them? Then this is the club for you! Join us as we explore 5 different picture books this summer. We will be doing fun activities and will have lively discussions about each of the picture books. Some of the activities will include 3 Clues Game, Scavenger hunts, and art. Links to the selected books will be shared with each family. Hope you can join us this summer as we share our love of books!

Middle School/High School Fitness

Description: These video fitness lessons will be completed twice a week. Each video will include a warm-up, the core workout, and a cool down and will last between 25-30 minutes. The purpose of these videos is to provide information and workout over aerobic endurance, cardiovascular endurance, and muscular endurance. These will be completed through a variety of workout training styles such as High Intensity Interval Training, Circuit Training, Body Weight and free weights training using body weight and items that can be found around your home. Exercises are intended for middle school and high school students.

Elementary Fitness/Exercise

Description: Students will receive Fun Fitness Ideas to stay Fit and Active for a Lifetime. We will be doing various fitness activities with a partner at different locations all over Topeka. We will also introduce a fruit or veggie nutritional tip for the day!

Description: Each Friday we will perform a group exercise that requires little to no equipment and then will participate in activities that will help skill development and improve fitness levels. Students that participate in this camp will need access to the app "Tik Tok", space to exercise, and access to at least one ball such as a soccer, basket, playground or bouncy ball.

Each week we will cover one aspect of fishing, preparing for a fishing trip, identifying safety hazards and becoming familiar with fishing equipment. Students that DO NOT have access to a fishing pole, will still be able to participate.

Description: Students will experience Real World Math by having a choice of 4 projects! One is a Fixer Upper project that will allow students to choose a property to fix up and customize, a Family Budget Project, a Personal Shopping Project, and a Summer Road Trip Project.

Middle School Book Club: The Yang Gang (6-8) - Part 1

Description: Mia Tang and her parents expected to work hard when they came to the United States, but they had no idea how difficult things would be. After a year or two struggling to make ends meet, they find themselves managing a motel for a cruel and exploitive owner. The work is exhausting and the problems are many, but the Tangs approach their new responsibility with determination, creativity, and compassion, making friends everywhere and sheltering a trickle of immigrants in worse straits than themselves. Ten-year-old Mia takes over the front desk, and makes it her own, while dreaming of a future as a writer. Based on Yang's own experiences as a new immigrant in the 1980s and 1990s, her novel speaks openly of hardship, poverty, assault, racism, and bullying, but keeps a light, positive tone throughout. This is a four-week class that begins June 8-and finishes on July 6.

Science Fun At Home (3-5)

Description: Learning doesn't have to end when school's out. Science at home is the perfect way to keep learning and have fun. Join Mrs. Johnson and learn how to make ice cream in a plastic bag, lava lamps, a color symphony, an exploding volcano, and much more. You will learn how to do all of these fun experiments using items you have at home. Join Mrs. Johnson for hands on learning and lots of fun!

Space Exploration: An Out of this World Experience (1-2) - Part 2

Description: This is a class designed to engage young explorers in the coming age of “Space Exploration.” Our new generation of students will hopefully witness, if not be, the first man and/or woman on Mars. This is a four-week class that will journey through the history of space travel, our solar system, space rovers and technology, training to become an astronaut, various careers in the space industry, our plans for future missions to Mars and much more. It will be a combination of ZOOM Classroom environment with independent activities provided through Seesaw, a learning app designed for independent exploration and creativity. This is the second week in this four-week course.

Student Google Certification (6-12) - Part 2

Description:Students will work Applied Digital Skills modules to better understand and utilize Google Apps for Education. These modules will cover Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet. At the end of the course, these students will be eligible to take the G-Suite Certification Exam at a later date.

Description: This course will explore a variety of topics through virtual field trips. Students will have the opportunity to learn about different places in the community as well as around the world. Explore the Spanish Culture (3-5)- Part 2

Description: Welcome to this fabulous Spanish summer class. In this 6-week course, you will learn the basics of all the different elements of the language: writing, listening, speaking and reading through games and songs. Our Zoom meetings will meet for 45 min daily (from Monday to Thursday) for six weeks. These sessions are beneficial for students without previous knowledge of the language or even with some background when it comes to Spanish language, because absorbing the culture is just as important as learning the language, making our Spanish summer classes an unforgettable experience.
