Term 2.2

As Term 2 comes to an end, we reflect on the amazing achievements of the secondary pupils thus far this academic year. Students have demonstrated teamwork, independence, confidence and have shown a great deal of resilience in commitment to sporting events, and academic events alike. As we look forward to a busy Term 3, these skills will be further tested to their limits, in particular, as our Year 11 students commence their iGCSE examinations.

Careers week

Careers week was an exciting end to the previous term. Secondary pupils heard experiences from a number of volunteers who kindly told us about their education and work backgrounds.

Following on from the Year 7-10 field visits, students prepared assemblies to showcase their achievements on the visits to their families and the rest of the school.

Last week's assembly theme was 'reflection': one of the attributes from the learner profile. Pupils arranged an active assembly where pupils played a new sport. Following this, they reflected upon their practice, Well done Amazon B.

In Drama, Year 9 students investigated the World War One poem 'In Flanders Field' and recreated a dramatic improvisation whilst narrating the poem.

Year 10 Business iGCSE pupils took part in enterprise week this term. They had to come up with their own business idea in groups, then they put together a business plan. In their plan they had to detail income and expenditure along with total projected profit. The two groups competed to make the most profit. Both groups decided to sell baked goods and put a lot of time and effort into making their products. Both teams made a profit and they sold out each day of the week! Well done Year 10s.

A tense final between Vulcan and Amazon volleyball teams.

All teams played extremely well.

The final was won by Vulcan House. Congratulations!

The annual TPIS Science Fair was another highlight of the term. Year 9 and 10 pupils worked hard on the day helping the Primary students to make their bouncy balls. Year 8 however, had been working hard for weeks to produce their experiments and presentation. They did an excellent job and the overall winners deserved their prizes. Janjow won the prize for best overall presentation, Pat won best verbal presentation and Haneul won best scientific idea.

Gold club members

At Tara Pattana we like to reward good behaviour and our current behaviour system in place for Secondary students rewards them with house points when they show aspects of the learner profile.

Some pupils have their ‘Gold status’, meaning they have accumulated over 120 house points since the beginning of this academic year. To celebrate their success, they were invited to a “Gold members’ BBQ” which took place on Tuesday, 2nd April during ECA time. This was not an event to be missed, as our very own Mr Levy manned the BBQ and cooked his special recipes. Delicious!
