Tax bills for the town of Chittenden are mailed yearly in late July. Payments are split in two equal installments and are due in September and February. Payments must be received by the Town Office before 4:00 PM on the corresponding due date. Postmarks are not accepted.

According to state statutes (32 V.S.A., 1674), any payments not received in the office by 4pm on the first due date are subject to 1% interest per month on any unpaid principal due. In addition any payments not received by the second due date will be automatically subject to an 8% penalty in addition to the 1% interest per month or any part thereof.
