Second Step is an SEL curriculum K-8 that aligns with our district goals in supporting SEL learning for our students. Students are at greater risk for drug and alcohol use, delinquency, school dropout, and youth violent behaviors when the following factors are present:
availability of drugs in the community
extreme community deprivation
family history of serious behavior problems
severe family conflict
academic failure
lack of commitment to school
antisocial behavior
friends with drug abuse and other problems
Families can decrease this risk by:
strong bonding to family/school/community/peers
clear behavior boundaries
monitoring
meaningful youth activities
recognition for youth accomplishments
