Tonganoxie High School is partnered with the University of Saint Mary for dual credit courses at a reduced price.
Dual credit courses allow for high school students to take college-level classes and provides them with the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit. This is typically done during a student’s senior year.
What Dual Credit Classes are offered at Tonganoxie High School?
Classes highlighted in gray are currently offered as dual credit. Classes in white are advanced placement (AP) courses available.
To earn dual credit with USM students must pass the course with a 'C' or higher. USM charges a reduced rate for students at $87 per credit hour. Payments are made directly to USM. Instructions for payment will be sent out to students and parents/guardians once the online enrollment process is completed, along with important dates regarding drops, refunds, and final exams.
Students are encouraged to check transferability of credits with their college of choice by working with the admissions counselor of that college. In most cases, in the event that a dual credit course is not equivalent, the credits still count as elective credits towards the student’s major. Refer to the table below for course names and codes when checking transferability:

How do AP Courses Work?
The purpose of ‘advanced placement’ (AP) courses is to provide students exposure to introductory level college courses, and more importantly an opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school during their junior year.
Towards the end of the course, students will take an AP test. Tests are scored on a rating of 1 to 5. Students who score 3 or above are usually not required to take the equivalent course once they get to college. Thus, students have the opportunity to earn college credit. Each college has different scores that are accepted as equivalents; students should refer to their college board account(s) to confirm scores, see the link below:
apstudents.collegeboard.org/getting-credit-placement/search-policies
***Please note, if a college is not listed on the college board website, then students will need to follow-up directly with an admissions counselor at the college of their choice regarding AP scores accepted.
