Role: Student Data Protection Officer monitors all issues relate to the protection of student data collected as part of district operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor data that the School District is required to submit to New York State Education Department (NYSED) or to any NYSED sanctioned outside entity.
  • Make a report in public session once a year that informs the public of the data that the School District is required to submit to New York State Education Department (NYSED) or to any NYSED sanctioned outside entity.
  • Notify the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education whenever the NYSED or any other outside agency sanctioned by NYSED requests additional data/data fields from the School District.
  • Ensure that the district is complying with all Federal and State requirements for data privacy and parental notification/opt-out procedures.
  • Train all staff annually on issues related to data privacy and security.


TCSD is compiling the following information about each agreement between DISTRICT and an outside party that receives protected student data, or protected principal or teacher data, from the district:

(1) the exclusive purposes for which the data will be used,

(2) how the contractor will ensure that any subcontractors it uses will abide by data protection and security requirements,

(3) when the contract expires and what happens to the data at that time,

(4) if and how an affected party can challenge the accuracy of the data,

(5) where the data will be stored, and

(6) the security protections taken to ensure the data will be protected, including whether the data will be encrypted.
