Chrome Extensions and Marketplace Apps increase the functionality of Google’s software in similar ways.
Chrome Extensions are found in the Chrome Web Store. Extensions primarily add functionality to the Chrome web browser. Once installed, they can be found in the upper right of the Chrome browser.
Marketplace Apps are found in the G Suite Marketplace. Apps primarily add functionality to individual products such as Docs, Sheets or Slides. Once installed they can be found under the Add Ons menu of whatever document you have open (ie- Google Docs.)
Websites, extensions, and apps approved by the district must enhance the quality of the learning environment and align with district goals for use of technology. Technology tools must:
support student learning through instructional technology standards.
support learning outcomes that align with state standards.
support classroom instruction such as research, projects and assignments.
promote student collaboration and communication.
maintain system security and promote safe and appropriate use of technology resources.
A website, extension, or app will not be approved if it:
contains Inappropriate content.
runs advertisements. Advertisements create security risks to the district network system.
functions as an online video gaming site.
collects, uses, shares, transfers personally identifiable information.
requires an age limit that is higher than your students' ages.
For students, all chrome extensions are blocked by default unless pre-installed by the District. This is for the safety and security of our Chromebooks and student accounts. However, this does not mean teachers are prohibited from using new and exciting extensions they find for the Chromebook. Using the form on this page, staff and students can submit requests for extensions or apps to be approved.
To make a request for an extension or app to be added, please use the form below, making sure you’re logged in with your Tonawanda City Schools Google Account.
