Before you sign up for a tour, you may want to review the Canals of D.C. map, which shows how 19th-century Washington D.C. was served by three major canals that were connected.
The graphic below overlays the Canals of D.C. map with the various LocktoberfestDC canal tours. Below the graphic is a Tour Summary where you can click to learn the details of - and sign up for - a particular tour.
All of our tours are timed such that they will allow all participants to join our LocktoberfestDC Celebration - a Bavarian-style social event - from 3:00PM-5:00PM at Sauf Haus Bier Hall and Garten. Participants may leave our LocktoberfestDC Celebration at any time (unguided) to return to the starting point of their tour (e.g., your car is parked there). You sign up for our LocktoberfestDC Celebration at the same time you sign up for a walking or biking tour.

In the event of bad weather, you will be notified via email if LocktoberfestDC is postponed to the rain date.
In lieu of a bicycle, electric scooters are permitted on tours labeled as "biking tours".
Pets are not permitted. Trained service animals are permitted.
It is suggested you wear appropriate footwear and bring sunscreen and a bottle of water. Along the biking and walking routes, there may be water stations to fill your water container.
For all tours, please stay together with the group. The pace of the walking and biking tours will be moderate (these are not races but educational activities).
Each tour will begin with an overview given by the Tour Leader. Also, each tour will have a number of brief stops to learn about historic points of interest related to the canals, canal boats, locks, lockkeeper houses - and the people who created and operated them.
Tour Leaders will take photos during the walking or biking tour, and some photos may be posted online afterwards. If you do not want to be included in a photo, please tell your Tour Leader.
Safety helmets are required for all biking tours. If you do not wear a helmet, you will not be permitted to participate in the tour.
