LocktoberfestDC Celebration

All participants are encouraged to join us at a Bavarian-style social event at Sauf Haus Bier Hall & Garten. Our LocktoberfestDC Celebration will be at the conclusion of your walking or biking tour. Our LocktoberfestDC Celebration is a pay-as-you-go activity. The food & drink menus can be found on the Sauf Haus website. Sauf Haus will provide all LocktoberfestDC participants with special discount pricing on beer, wine, cocktails, and food.

Start Time: Our LocktoberfestDC Celebration is 3:00PM-5:00PM.

Sign Up: Sign up is required. Sign up for our LocktoberfestDC Celebration when your sign up for a walking or biking tour.

Venue Details: The Sauf Haus entrance is located at the southwest corner of the intersection of 18th St. NW and Jefferson Pl NW (between the entrances for the Chick-Fil-A and Shake Shack fast food restaurants). Sauf Haus has a light blue sign over the street entrance. Immediately inside the Sauf Haus street entrance, go up a steep set of stairs to reach the first level. That's where we will meet. This level has its own bar and restrooms. (Note: The second level of Sauf Haus is an open-air biergarten and it tends to get very crowded, so we will meet on the first level).

Bring With You: Your Tour Leader will give you a special Sauf Haus token that gets you happy hour pricing (reduced pricing on everything - including beer, wine, cocktails, and food).

Getting To Sauf Haus Bier Hall & Garten

Sauf Haus Bier Hall & Garten is about one mile from both the Lockkeeper's House and C&O Canal Lock 3. It is a very short walk from Farragut North Metro station.

From the Lockkeeper's House

Walk/Bike. Go west one block on Constitution Avenue NW and turn right onto Virginia Avenue NW. After a short distance, turn right onto 18th St. NW (which is a one-way street northbound). Continue north on 18th St. NW and cross M St. NW. Sauf Haus is just ahead on the left-hand side of 18th St. NW. Travel time is about 25 minutes walking and 10 minutes by bike. If you have a bike, there are numerous bike racks on the sidewalks within a two-block radius around Sauf Haus.
Metro. The closest Metro subway station to the Lockkeeper's House is Smithsonian on the orange/silver/blue line. Once at Smithsonian station, take the subway two stops to Metro Center, then switch to the red line towards Shady Grove. Take the red line one stop to Farragut North. From Farragut North take the north exit (there are two subway exits) onto L St. NW and go west one block to 18th St. NW. Turn right on 18th St. NW and go north one block to cross M St. NW. Sauf Haus is just ahead on the left-hand side of 18th St. NW. Travel time depends on the Metro schedule, including switching trains. If you have a bike (allowed on all Metro trains at all times), there are numerous bike racks on the sidewalks within a two-block radius around Sauf Haus.

From C&O Canal Lock 3

- Walk/Bike. Go west less than one block along the C&O Canal to Thomas Jefferson St NW. Turn right and go one block to M Street NW. Turn right on M Street NW and bear right at 29th St. NW onto Pennsylvania Avenue NW. Cross over Rock Creek and at 25th St NW bear left onto L St NW. Continue east on the protected bike lane on L St NW until you reach 18th St. NW. Turn left on 18th St. NW and cross over M St. NW. Sauf Haus is just ahead on the left-hand side of 18th St. NW. Travel time is about 25 minutes walking and 10 minutes by bike. If you have a bike, there are numerous bike racks on the sidewalks within a two-block radius around Sauf Haus.
- Metro. The closest Metro subway station is Foggy Bottom-GWU on the orange/silver/blue line. Once at Foggy Bottom-GWU station, take the subway three stops to Metro Center, then switch to the red line towards Shady Grove. From Metro Center, follow the directions listed above for the Lockkeeper's House.
