The SAT and ACT are college admissions exams used by colleges and universities to determine admission, eligibility for admission to specific majors, course placement, and scholarships. While many colleges are still “test optional” for admission purposes, many colleges offer assured admission and scholarships based on test scores.
All sophomores and juniors are administered the PSAT/NMSQT exam in the fall of each school year to prepare them for the SAT. It is optional for freshman for a fee.
The PSAT given in the fall of the junior year is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It is a nationwide competition among all juniors that could result in students receiving fullride scholarships and admission to prestigious universities. Click HERE for more information.
Students are administered the official SAT in the spring of their junior year. The PSAT for 10th/11th graders and the School Day SAT for juniors are free and students do not have to register. Students may take the official SAT/ACT as often as they would like to achieve the score they need for college admission and/or scholarship opportunities. They can register with the testing agency. More information is found at the link above.
