The major aims of our laboratory are to elucidate the function of biomolecules related to human diseases, proteinaceous toxin, mussel biomineralization and food sciences, based on insights into their physiological functions and three-dimensional structures. Then, we develop and apply novel technologies and therapeutic strategies using features of their biomolecules.
We employ multidisciplinary approaches, including structural analyses of proteins by X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy, thermodynamic analyses, molecular cloning, isolation, purification of proteins, functional analyses using yeast reconstitution system or disease model mice, and elucidation of enzymatic reaction by LC-MS/MS.
