Baltimore City Teaching Residency Testing Guide

As you embark on your journey as a Baltimore City Teaching Residency Resident. There is critical information regarding your required certification exams. This site provides resources to support you as you prepare for your exams.

Praxis Exam Requirements

Maryland requires all teachers to pass the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Praxis Core) and Praxis Content Knowledge exam for your assigned subject area. You will need to pass two exams prior to pre-service training.

Based on exam availability and to allow enough time to retake your exam if needed we strongly suggest taking your exams as soon as possible. You will be required to submit passing scores to be considered hire-ready by Baltimore City Public Schools. You do not have to sit for your exam before enrolling.

2. Praxis Core Requirement:

Before pre-service training begins, enrollees will need to submit passing scores on the Praxis Core, SAT, ACT, OR GRE or have a 3.0 GPA. You DO NOT have to register for this exam in order to enroll, but please give yourself enough time.
