How long is the Praxis Core?
PRAXIS CORE: Mathematics – 56 selected-response questions to be answered in 90 minutes
PRAXIS CORE: Reading – 56 selected-response questions to be answered in 85 minutes
PRAXIS CORE: Writing– 40 selected-response questions to be answered in 40 minutes. Two essay questions that need to be answered in 60 minutes (thirty minutes for each).

How can I learn more about what's covered in each test?
Study Companions include a test overview, content topics, sample questions with rationales for the best answers and how to understand different question types. These are free and available as downloadable Adobe® Acrobat® PDF files.

How can I organize my efforts to prepare to take the test(s)?
Start by visiting the state requirements page for the state or agency in which you plan to seek certification to learn which Praxis tests are required.
Review the Study Companion to learn about what content is covered by the test.
Review The Praxis® Tests Information Bulletin (PDF) to familiarize yourself with policies and procedures.
Select a test date that is far enough in the future to allow sufficient time to prepare for the test(s). See the Praxis test dates and score reporting calendar.
Use Develop a Study Plan (Word) to help organize your preparation efforts. For many tests, a Study Plan template is available. Other materials may also be available for your test(s). Find test preparation materials for the test you're taking.
How many practice tests should I take before the actual exam?
To hone your time management skills, pinpoint your areas of weakness, and reduce general anxiety about the exam, you should take as many Praxis practice tests as possible. A good rule of thumb is to keep taking tests until you consistently achieve scores that you are happy with.
Are calculators allowed for Praxis tests?
Graphing, scientific and four-function calculators are permitted or required for some Praxis tests. Some tests have an on-screen calculator that you can use. For detailed information, see Calculator Use. In general, unless it is specifically stated that a calculator is permitted or required for a particular test, calculators may not be used.
