Under new law effective January 2022, health care providers are required to give patients who (1) don’t have insurance or (2) who opt out of using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
If you believe you’ve been wrongly billed, you may contact: The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises for more information about your rights under federal law.
For clients who are using insurance, the good faith estimate does not currently apply to you and you should pay the estimated patient responsibility at the time of service, while keeping in mind that you are responsible for your plan's benefits and TrueNorth Holistic Counseling does not have control over your benefits. Any insurance estimates are ONLY estimates and not a guarantee of coverage. If you pay your estimate at the time of service and your insurance plan processes claims showing a higher patient amount due, you will be sent an invoice and asked to pay that amount promptly.
