Chicken Coop and Bobcat Conflicts
Our research shows that bobcats are attracted to chicken coops and bird feeders. Once they get a meal, they often will come back. Here are some suggestions to help deter bobcats from your coop.
Secure fencing and top of coop. Lock chickens up at night (and maybe even the day).
Make noise. Play a radio with music or people talking.
Motion detection lights or sprinklers.
If you are having issues and would like help with your coop or deterrence methods, please contact Meeghan at bobcats@tmcc.edu.
Trapping and relocating the bobcat is usually ineffective as the cat will usually come back to its home range or another bobcat will start to use the space. It is much more effective to shore up the coop to prevent the bobcat from hunting and make your backyard an undesirable place for the bobcat or other wildlife.
