Aloha Second Grade Families,
Welcome to 2nd grade! I can’t tell you how excited I am to spend this school year with your child. I truly believe that God has great plans for our class, and I feel so blessed to be part of this chapter in your child’s life.
Thank you for trusting Trinity and me with their education this year. I know how precious these years are, and I’m committed to creating a classroom where your child feels safe, loved, and encouraged to grow, not just academically, but in their faith as well.
I’m looking forward to getting to know your family better and working together to make this a wonderful year filled with learning, laughter, and memorable moments. It’s going to be a great adventure, and I can’t wait to see what this year brings!
Blessings,
Mrs. Harlan
This Week:
This week we will continue our phonics lessons with UFLI Lessons 84–85. Students will learn the long a sound spelled ai and ay (Lesson 84) and the long e sound spelled ee, ea, and ey (Lesson 85). In grammar, we will continue working on contractions, learning how two words can be combined and shortened using an apostrophe. Our Vocabulary unit: Greek Myths will continue as we explore new stories and characters from ancient Greece. In science we will continue learning about the Human Body, focusing on how different systems work together to help us function and grow. In Bible Study, we will learn the stories of Esther, Jonah, and the Minor Prophets.
Christmas Program: Our Christmas program will be December 9th from 5:30-6:30. All students will have a part and will be expected to be present. Please let me know right away if your child will not be there. Parts will be coming home this week. Please have your child practice reading their line or lines at home.
Math Home Workbook Lessons:
Module 3 Lessons 1-5
Spelling Pattern:
The long a sound spelled ai and ay (use ai in the beginning or middle of a word, use ay at the end of a word)
Bible Memory Verse:
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3
Reminders:
1) Special Dress on Fridays
Students are allowed to wear any Trinity t-shirt they chose on Fridays. Students may also wear their favorite NFL t-shirt or jersey.
2) Mililani Christmas Parade
Please join us as we walk in the Mililani Christmas Parade this Saturday. The Parade starts at 9am, but we would like you there by 8am. We will meet in the bleachers at the high school. Dress Christmassy and join us in the celebration. Parents please do not just drop your child off. We kindly ask you to come walk with them. Mahalo.
3) Regal fundraiser
Have you sold any items yet? Wednesday is the deadline to get your final order in. These items make great stocking stuffers!
Please use your name placard at pickup time and arrive at the time of your oldest child (This rule is to allow the first wave of parents to pick up and leave without being trapped in the lot behind a parent waiting for a student that will not be released for 10 more minutes. This helps prevent excess traffic back-up on California Ave.) Parents arriving too early will be asked to please loop around to let the other parents out.
First day pick up time: K-4 11:20 am, 5-8 11:30 am
Full day pick up times: K-4 2:20 pm, 5-8 2:30 am
Dress codes are as follows:
Monday: PE uniform
Tuesday: Polo uniform
Wednesday: Polo uniform
Thursday: Polo uniform
Friday: PE uniform
Students are required to have closed toe shoes, no crocs or slippers are permitted. Please see the student handbook for more details on the dress code
