December 1 - December 5
Welcome to Quarter 2 of 3rd Grade!
December 1 - December 5
Aloha Parents,
Can you believe it’s already December? The holiday season is here, and our classroom will be full of fun activities all month long! This December, our class will focus on acts of kindness throughout the classroom and school. On Mondays, students will participate in Merry Messages, writing short notes to staff members to spread cheer. On Fridays, we will enjoy Festive Fridays with holiday-themed activities. This Friday, students will create classroom stockings where they can place kind notes for their classmates throughout the month. Students may bring small items, such as candy canes, as long as they bring enough for everyone, and they are also welcome to make cards at home. In addition, we will have a classroom chain countdown to mark the days until Christmas break. Each day, we’ll remove one chain link and complete the fun activity written on it.
This week, we will have practice for our Christmas Program every day. Because of this, our learning schedule may shift slightly (no multiplication timed tests and no grammar). Thank you for your flexibility and support!
Just a reminder, with the holiday season approaching, it is especially important to stay on top of your child's work and grades. This is the time when students often tend to not be as responsible, so your support in keeping them focused and engaged is crucial.

Words with silent letters.
Math
No multiplication timed test this week.
Math Quiz: Our math quiz will be on Tuesday. A practice quiz will be sent home on Monday to help students prepare.
We will begin Module 3 in math this week.
Students will start with a counting collection of pregrouped objects to apply their understanding of multiplication from Module 1.
They will explore multiplication and division with the units of 6 and 8, seeing sixes as 2 threes and eights as 2 fours.
Students will use the commutative, distributive, and associative properties to help with multiplying and dividing.
Representations will progress to arrays and tape diagrams, and students will begin using a letter to represent an unknown quantity.
Since first quarter, your child has been working on their multiplication facts. I would like all students to be at least on their 6 facts before winter break. Although we don't have the timed tests this week, please continue to have your child practice their multiplication facts four times a week. One great tool is https://www.timestables.com/speed-test/ to help practice.
Reading Reminder:
Reading Logs for the month of November are due December 4th. Please ignore the typo titled December's Reading Log. Your child will be able to turn this log in for credit. In order to receive the Pizza Hut coupon, your child must turn in their signed reading log by December 4th.
We be reading chapter 2 of Mr. Popper's Penguins. We will be going reading skills and vocabulary as we read the chapters in class. We will also be beginning writing about our Penguin's adventures soon. If you haven't done so already, please send a photo of your child's penguin on their adventure.

What is Artsonia? Artsonia is a site that hosts a digital portfolio of your student's artwork. Parents and families can view art online, leave comments, and order keepsakes featuring the artwork. They make great gifts and 20% of sales go back to Trinity. There's still time to order for Christmas, but don't delay!
