About The Conference
To promote the sharing and exchange of academic research achievements in science education, the Association of Science Education in Taiwan (ASET) has been collaborating with three major normal universities in Taiwan (National Taiwan Normal University, National Changhua University of Education, and National Kaohsiung Normal University) to host the "Annual International Conference of Science Education in Taiwan" since its establishment in 1998. ASET plays a pivotal role in the field of science education in Taiwan, dedicating itself to leading, managing, and promoting science education research and dissemination. It also serves as a crucial platform for interaction among domestic and international science education research institutions and professionals.
ASET publishes the "Contemporary Journal of Science Education," Taiwan's leading journal in the field, which has received numerous accolades, such as being ranked as "TSSCI Level 1" in the 2022 Taiwan Humanities and Social Sciences Journal Evaluation and receiving the "Immediate Impact Award" at the "2021 Taiwan Academic Resource Impact Conference." The association's annual conference, held at the end of each year, has become a significant event in the science education community in Taiwan. By 2023, the conference had been successfully held 39 times, exerting a profound influence on Taiwan's academic, educational, and industrial sectors. In recent years, its international reputation has steadily increased, attracting more international participants and collaborations with global academic organizations.
Through the collaborative efforts of past hosting institutions and the active participation of attendees from various countries, the "Annual International Conference of Science Education in Taiwan" has established a robust community through international cooperation. This has significantly contributed to enhancing Taiwan's international reputation in science education practices and promoting the exchange and collaboration of science education research. Therefore, it is essential to continue organizing this conference.
The 40th "Annual International Conference of Science Education in Taiwan" in 2024 will be hosted by the Graduate Institute of Science Education and Environmental Education at National Kaohsiung Normal University. With the rapid advancement of technology, the application and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various fields have become increasingly prevalent. The enactment of the "Artificial Intelligence Act" in 2021 and the launch of OpenAI in 2022 clearly indicate that AI has become a global trend with significant impacts. In this wave of change, science education faces unprecedented challenges and opportunities. AI applications are reshaping the science education environment, teaching methods, curriculum design, student interaction, and assessment strategies. Teachers need to effectively utilize AI to enhance teaching efficiency while being cautious about the use of Generative AI to prevent students from becoming passive recipients of information, which could hinder their attitudes and imagination toward science learning. Additionally, careful measures must be taken to prevent the misuse and abuse of AI, which could negatively impact teaching quality. How to effectively leverage advanced AI technology to improve the quality of science education requires in-depth discussions among science education researchers, frontline educators, and AI developers.
This year's conference focuses on the core theme of "Science Education for the AI Generation," emphasizing the research and practical applications of digital information technology and AI in science education. We have invited experts and scholars from related fields both domestically and internationally to deliver keynote speeches and plan to hold multiple workshops and forums during the conference. This event aims to deeply explore and inherit research and teaching experiences and results, becoming a platform for parallel dialogues and cooperation. It will help maintain and promote the sharing and exchange within the research and teaching community and facilitate collaboration among industry, government, and academia.
The "Annual International Conference of Science Education in Taiwan" has once again received authorization and recognition from the East-Asia Association For Science Education (EASE). It will continue to build on the foundation of international exchanges established over the years, bringing together international science education researchers, educators, students, related professionals, and future aspirants in science education or research to present and discuss their papers. The conference focuses on significant issues in contemporary science education both domestically and internationally, aiming to broaden the academic development perspective of science education in Taiwan and promote international academic cooperation and exchange. Besides inviting internationally renowned scholars as keynote speakers, the conference will also feature forums, paper presentations, interactive posters, workshops, and other diverse formats to foster deep exchanges between local and international participants through the "Annual International Conference of Science Education in Taiwan."
