In November 2023 KrayonCAD was announced on Chief Dephi. After playing with this we decided that it would be a great way to quickly determine how the subsystems would integrate with our robot design. The path the game piece takes through the robot is an area we focused on this year with the goal to reduce the degrees of freedom reducing failure points and allowing us to optimize speed.
Our team uses onShape. This CAD software is an effective tool for us as all team members can access it regardless of the device they are using. We are reaping the benefits of our TechnoGirls program that we ran during Covid when we learning at home. During that time we ran afternoon CAD training workshops for girls grades 6-10 where they learned to use OnShape to design a robot. Our CAD subteam lead, team captain and a number of leaders on our team were part of that program.
With our education enterprise version students are assigned team roles. Our design uses multiple documents allowing us to reduce the impact of complex designs. Naming and part numbering conventions allow us to easily track the status of parts through the entire manufacturing process.
