Hello, wonderful families! I hope you had a great weekend. We have been having a great time in class lately. Your kiddos are wonderful and have settled in a good routine, and we are having so much fun together. We have our first Social Studies test this Thursday! Please study the study guide with your child this week. We also have a fun Jeopardy game that we play in class. You can use it at home; the link is below. It has more on it than what is on the test. They do not need to know the Tropic of Cancer or the Tropic of Capricorn. They DO need to know the 4 regions, their natural resources, and industries, so help them study the chart! We created brochures in class, specifically on the 4 regions, so they know a lot about them. Please keep study guides in your child’s homework folder for the week. We will use it to study during class and will turn it in for credit on test day. Have a great week!

Welcome to October….in a few more days! October is very busy as we are near the end of our first quarter! We have many unit tests coming up. Today, we will finish our Science study guide in preparation for our test this Thursday, October 2nd. Please help your child study by going over the study guide with them. This week, we will also begin a study guide for Social Studies. Our first Social Studies test will be next week on Thursday, the 9th. We always take time to study in class, but additional study time may be needed at home to prepare and be ready for testing. Please help your child at home to feel confident about testing. We have started a new math unit on multiplication. We will be working on multiplication with double- and triple-digit numbers. Please help your child review their multiplication facts at home. We will continue to use multiplication for the remainder of the year as we progress through our additional units. It will be crucial to have facts memorized.
*Great job to all of our students for selling raffle tickets for our Drive for School Fundraiser! We have a few more weeks to sell tickets. Keep up the good work!
*Did you know that as a 4th grader, your child can get a FREE National Parks Pass? Typically, each student would receive their pass when we go to a National Park on one of our yearly field trips. This year, your child can get their pass early. You can apply with the link below, and it will come in the mail.

WRITING- In writing, we are working on our realistic fiction stories. Your kiddos have been so creative in their writing, and their stories are turning out great!
SOCIAL STUDIES- In Social Studies, we are learning about the 4 different regions of California. This week, we are starting a Social Studies/Writing project, where we will write about California's regions and create a brochure in class.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Our first full week of school went extremely well last week. I have been so impressed with all of the kiddos' manners and kind words. One of our class themes this year is Kindness. We will be working hard all year to be respectful, responsible, and kind in the classroom. Thank you to all of you who came out for Back To School Night. If you did not make it, I sent home an informational packet in your Child's folder with all the details. We are jumping right into all of our curriculum. Here is a little about each subject.
In Science, we have begun learning about energy. Each week, the unit includes a hands-on experiment in class. The kids love this, and it allows them freedom to explore and create!
In Social Studies, we are learning how to locate places on Earth using latitude and longitude. You can ask your kids to sing you the latitude and longitude song!😉
In Writing, we have begun learning about narrative writing and will begin writing realistic fiction soon. Last week, we wrote stories about Smooshie's Adventures! Smooshy is our class mascot, a S'mores pillow. In class, we talk a lot about adding "S'more" to our writing with characters and details.
Our math curriculum is challenging! We are starting with rounding and place value. Today, your child will come home with a completed practice test. This is to help them study for their first math quiz THIS Friday, September 5th! The wording from the practice test and problems will be VERY similar on the quiz. Please use it to help them practice and become more familiar with the problems. Please keep this practice test in their homework folder ALL week, as we will use it in class to study. We will turn it in for credit before our quiz on this FRIDAY!
During Bible class, we have been learning all about what the Bible is and the truth that it shares with us.
Lastly, we are digging into our Language Arts curriculum, which involves lots of reading, grammar, and spelling. I know we have some excellent spellers in our class this year. We practice spelling in class daily and have nightly spelling homework to prepare for our Friday tests. Also, don't forget about the weekly reading summary. Students can work on it while they read throughout the week for their reading summary, which is due each Friday.
*Thursday, September 4th- SCHOOL PICTURES - Fourth graders will be taking pictures on this day.
*Movie Night- Friday, September 12th- 7:00-9:00
*Friday, September 19th - Our first all-school SPIRIT DAY - Fun Sock Day!!

Hello wonderful families! I hope you had a great weekend. We have our first Social Studies test on this Wednesday! Please take one more chance to study the study guide with your child tonight. We also have a fun Jeopardy game that we have been playing in class. You can use it at home too! It has more on it than what is on the test. They do not need to know the Tropic of Cancer or the Tropic of Capricorn. They do need to know the 4 regions, their natural resources, and industries, so help them study the chart! We just created brochures in class specifically on the 4 regions, so they know a lot about them. Click the link below to play Jeopardy at home! We will also have a Math test this Thursday, October, 10th. A math study guide will be coming home tonight. Please use it this week to study with your child. All study guides get turned in on test day! Have a great week!

I can't believe we are halfway through September, time seems to be flying by! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We are cruising through our curriculum in the classroom. Here is a little update on each subject...
SCIENCE- We continue to learn all about energy and how it is stored in science. Each week we have a hands-on experiment where the kids are taking charge. This week we are learning all about the energy in a chain reaction machine.
MATH- We started Unit 2 in math last week. It is a unit all about adding and subtracting numbers.
WRITING- In writing, we are working on our realistic fiction stories. Your kiddos have been so creative in their writing, their stories are turning out great!
SOCIAL STUDIES- In Social Studies we are learning about the 4 different regions of California. This week we are starting a Social Studies/Writing project and we will be writing about California's regions and making a brochure in class.
BIBLE- During Bible class, we are talking about how God is always with us, and present in everything we do.
LANGUAGE ARTS/READING- The curriculum includes a reader's theatre at the end of each third week which we performed in class last week. We continue to work on grammar and spelling within language arts. The spelling is more challenging in this curriculum. I know we have some excellent spellers in our class this year. Keep up the good work!
**REMINDERS**
Drive for SCHOOLS!! Our yearly fundraiser is underway! Sell those tickets and help raise money for our school. There are some excellent prizes to win this year. Our class has a chance to win a class party if we have the most tickets sold each week. I sent home an envelope with tickets in it to sell last week. You can return them to the classroom or office anytime and get more.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Our first full week of school went extremely well last week. I have been so impressed with all of the kiddo's manners and kind words. One of our class themes this year is Kindness. We will be working hard all year to be respectful, responsible, and kind in the classroom. We are jumping right into all of our curriculum. Here is a little about each subject.
In Science, we have begun learning about energy. Each week the unit includes a hands-on experiment in class. The kids love this and it allows the kids freedom to explore and create!
In Social Studies we are learning how to locate places on earth using latitude and longitude. You can ask your kids to sing you the latitude and longitude song!😉
In Writing, we have begun learning about narrative writing and will begin writing realistic fiction soon. This week we wrote stories about Smooshie's Adventures! Smooshy is our class mascot, a S'mores pillow. In class, we talk a lot about adding "S'more" to our writing with characters and details.
Our math curriculum is challenging! We are starting off with rounding, and place value. Today your child will come home with a completed practice test. This is to help them study for their first math quiz NEXT TUESDAY, September 10th! The wording from the practice test and problems will be VERY similar on the quiz. Please use it to help them practice and become more familiar with the problems. Please keep this practice test in their homework folder ALL week as we will use it in class to study. We will turn it in for credit before our quiz on Tuesday!
During Bible class, we have been learning all about what the Bible is and the truth that it shares with us.
Lastly, we are digging into our Language Arts curriculum which involves lots of reading, grammar, and spelling. The spelling is more challenging than our previous curriculum. I know we have some excellent spellers in our class this year. We practice spelling in class daily and have nightly spelling homework to prepare for our Friday tests. Also, don't forget about the weekly reading summary. Students can work on it while they read throughout the week for their reading summary that is due each Friday.
Friday, September 6th - our first all-school SPIRIT DAY - Crazy from Head to Toe (wear your crazy hats, crazy socks, etc)
Tuesday & Wednesday, September 10 & 11 - SCHOOL PICTURES - we will let you know which day your class is scheduled soon.
WOW! That was a lot of information. Have a wonderful week. As always, email me if you have any questions!

Welcome to another wonderful week! Thank you to everyone who helped me celebrate my birthday last Friday. Thank you for all the cards, treats, gifts, and flowers. I felt so loved and appreciated by all of you.
We have our first social studies test tomorrow! Please take one more chance to study that study guide with your child tonight. We also have a really fun Jeopardy game that we have been playing to study. You can use it at home too! It has way more on it than is on the test. They do not need to know the Tropic of Cancer or the Tropic of Capricorn. They do need to know the 4 regions, their natural resources and industries, so help them study the chart! We just created brochures in class specifically on the 4 regions, so they know a lot about them. Click the link below to play Jeopardy at home!

WRITING- In writing, we are finishing up our realistic fiction stories. Your kiddos have been so creative in their writing, their stories are turning out great!
SOCIAL STUDIES- In Social Studies we are learning about the 4 different regions of California. This week we are starting a Social Studies/Writing project and we will be writing about California's regions and making a brochure in class.

LANGUAGE ARTS/READING- The curriculum includes a reader's theatre at the end of each third week which we will be performing in class last week. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Our first full week of school went extremely well last week. I have been so impressed with all of the kiddo's manners and kind words. One of our class themes this year is Kindness. We will be working hard all year to be respectful, responsible, and, kind in the classroom.
This is to help them study for their first math quiz THIS FRIDAY! The wording from the practice test and problems will be VERY similar on the quiz. Please use it to help them practice and become more familiar with the problems. Please keep this practice test in their homework folder ALL week as we will use it in class to study. We will turn it in for credit before our quiz on Friday!
We practice spelling in class each day and have nightly spelling homework to be ready for our Friday tests. I am sending the reading summary paper home tonight. Students can work on it while they read throughout the week for their reading summary that is due each Friday.
WOW! That was a lot of information. Have a wonderful week. As always, email me if you have any questions!

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. This is a busy week as we prepare for state testing. During our week we will be doing all sorts of reviews in every subject to prepare for testing. Our testing week is Monday, April 24- Friday, April 28. State testing is important. Please try to be on time for school and if possible schedule appointments for another week. The majority of our testing will take place in the morning.
We will also complete a math study guide today and we will have our test this Friday. To lighten the load a bit there is NO spelling this week. Everyone did an amazing job on their Landmark projects. I was blown away by the creativity in this class. Have a great week!

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely spring break. This sun is bringing me life! It was so incredible to join with so many believers around the world and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Rene (our pastor at Twin Lakes) shared an incredible new book by Dr. Jeremiah Johnston, "Body of Proof." It shares the 7 best reasons to believe in the resurrections of Jesus - and why it matters today. I could personally share with you the proof from my own personal life, but this book offers an academic approach.
This is an exciting week! The California landmark projects are due TOMORROW! We will work on our presentations today and tomorrow and then invite the third graders to come and listen to our speeches.
This Thursday we have a spirit day: WESTERN DAY! YEEHAW!
We have arrived at the fourth and final quarter of the FOURTH grade! Your child is almost a FIFTH grader! Wow! We only have about 7 weeks to go. This is the most challenging quarter of the year. We have many things to accomplish. Here are a few things to keep in mind.
IOWA testing is April, 24-27th. I will send out a sign-up to bring in healthy snacks for each day of the week. We really try and make it special for the students. Each day after testing, we have a STEAM activity that the students will LOVE!
This quarter we will learn how to write literary essays. We will ask ourselves, "What is the author's purpose? What is the author trying to say?"
Hope you all have a wonderful day and get to enjoy this gorgeous sunshine!

Try to get your child to school on time. Drafstic Park is from the beginning of school each day until just before recess. It is 3 days full of learning and fun! We will be finishing our California Landmark reports this week. Don't forget the landmark model is due AFTER spring break. Get started now so spring break is completely FREE! Please do not bring in your project until the due date.

I hope you are all dry and safe. What a week our community has had. I have seen people come together and clean and help. I have walked our beaches and tried to process it all. I am looking forward to having everyone back in the classroom healthy and safe.
Who is ready to hoedown? I hope you will join us on Friday, January 20th. Be sure to RSVP so we can dance the night away together.
IMPORTANT: The best way to support your child in the third quarter...remind them to do their homework and bring it back to school. The spelling and math homework is so important and they are a big part of their grade. The weekly reading summary is the only way for me to know that they are reading at home. It is 20% of their grade. I remind them, but students are still casually bringing it in on Friday morning and trying to quickly fill it out in class, OR NOT COMPLETING IT AT ALL! If you see your child's reading grade has dropped on their report card this quarter, this is likely the reason why. The daily homework is to read for 20 minutes, 5 days a week. The summary should be 4-5 sentences. Each sentence needs to be a fourth-grade sentence.
Here are a couple examples of a complete reading summary:
"This week I am reading the book, Wonder. August goes camping with his class. He is so excited, but it is his first time away from his parents. While August is at camp, some bullies attack him and his friends. August finds out that people really do care and step in to protect him."
"I am reading, Because of Winn-Dixie. Opal is new to town and doesn't have any friends. She meets a dog at the grocery store and takes him home. He is dirty and smelly, but he keeps smiling at her. She asks her father if they can keep him. Her dad says no, but then realizes they need Winn-Dixie as much as he needs them."
We have already done so much together this year. I can't believe we are just a week from the end of the 2nd quarter.

Welcom to another wonderful week. Thank you to everyone who helped me celebrate my birthday last Friday. Thank you for all the cards, gifts, and flowers. I felt so loved and appreciated by all of you. This week is full of wonderful things! We are bringing back BUDDIES! This Wednesday, we will have our first visit from our 8th-grade buddy class. One of my favorite things about our school is the community that is built from Kinder all the way up to the big 8th graders. We will get to meet with them once a month and do special activities together.
We have our first social studies test on Wednesday. The study guide will go home today. We also have a really fun Jeopardy game that we have been playing to study. You can use it at home too! It has way more on it than is on the test. They do not need to know the tropic of Cancer or the tropic of Capricorn. They do need to know the 4 regions and their natural resources and industries, so help them study the chart! We just created brochures in class specifically on the 4 regions, so they know a lot about them.
If you haven't had a chance to sign up for a parent/teacher conference time yet, here is the link. Please sign up for a time that works for you. Thank you to all of you who have already signed up. I look forward to meeting with all of you in a few weeks. Have a wonderful week!!

I can't believe we are over halfway through September, time seems to be flying by! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We are cruising through our curriculum in the classroom. Here is a little update on each subject...
SCIENCE- We continue to learn all about energy and how it is stored in science. Each week we have a hands-on experiment where the kids are taking charge. This week we are learning all about the energy in a change reaction machine.
MATH- We started Unit 2 in math last week. It is a shorter unit all about data. We are graphing, measuring, and learning all about the information we have.
WRITING- In writing we are finishing up our realistic fiction stories. Your kiddos have been so creative in their writing, their stories are turning out great!
SOCIAL STUDIES- In Social Studies we are learning about the 4 different regions of California. This week we are starting a Social Studies/Writing project and we will be writing about California's regions and making a brochure in class.
BIBLE- During Bible class, we are talking about how God is omnipresent, always with us, and present in everything we do.
LANGUAGE ARTS/READING- This week we are starting unit 2 in Languagge Arts. In our reading, we are focusing on characters this week. The curriculum includes a reader's theatre at the end of each third week within the lesson that all the kids enjoyed performing in class last week. We continue to work on grammar and spelling within language arts. The spelling is more challenging in this curriculum. I know we have some excellent spellers in our class this year. Starting this week I am offering enrichment spelling to the class. Each week we will have a spelling pre-test on Monday. If a student misses 3 or fewer words, they will add the 5 enrichment words to their studying for the week. These words are meant for a challenge and can only be added as extra credit. If anyone scores a 100% on the pre-test, then they will only study the enrichment words for the week. Students will have a star on their desks on Tuesday morning which tells them they have enrichment words for the week. They will be responsible for writing/adding their enrichment words to their weekly spelling sheet and planner from the board to study for the week. I will give them plenty of reminders and guidance.
You can return them to the classroom or office anytime and get more!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Our first full week of school went extremely well last week. I have been so impressed with all of the kiddo's manners and kind words. One of our class themes this year is Kindness. We will be working hard all year to be respectful, responsible, and, kind in the classroom . Thank you to all of you who were able to join me for Back to School Night! It was great to see/meet everyone.
Our math curriculum has a slower start. We have been reviewing multiplication strategies and word problems.
During Bible class, we have been learning all about what the Bible is and the truth that it shares with us.
Lastly, we are digging into our Language Arts curriculum which involves lots of reading, grammar, and spelling. Soon we will take the Iowa Flex reading test to determine everyone's reading level in class.
WOW! That was a lot of information. Have a wonderful week. As always, email me if you have any questions!

I hope you had a nice three-day weekend. Remember that next weekend is also a three-day weekend in honor of Presidents' Day. It feels so good to have that extra day to spend with family relaxing. Enjoy!
Do you have plans yet for spring break?? Go visit a National Park! Don't forget to get your FREE National Park Pass! All 4th graders get in free to National Parks. I even think they are extending it because of Covid restrictions. Check out this site to print out your pass or just show the park digitally. https://everykidoutdoors.gov/pass.htm Go explore!
Next week is our famous Gold Rush Day! On Wednesday, February 23rd please have your child wear their best 49er gear. NO, not the football team. We are encouraging everyone to dress up. Some suggestions are to wear a flannel, white t-shirt, bandana, overalls or jeans, like Levi Strauss who invented jeans. Add a hat and suspenders for extra flair. I have mustaches for them at school that they can wear. If you have signed up to bring something Ifor this special day, please bring it in soon. I am looking for empty canned food cans. If you use any canned food items over the next week could you bring your washed cans to me at school with the lable off? We do a fun activity on Gold Rush day with cans and we need more this year. This day is SO fun and is one of the highlights of the year!

Last week was a ROARING good time as we kicked off our report writing with DRAFTSIC PARK! I hope your child came home and told you all about it. We dug for details and helped the researchers of WRITEON Island to write their research reports.
We are starting our California Landmark Projects! Your child should have come home and told you the landmark that they have chosen. We will be writing the reports in class. They are due on March 4th. The model, that will be created at home, is due on Friday, March 10th. The model should be small enough for your child to carry and fit on a student desk (16x24 in). It should be designed and created by the students with limited support from parents as necessary. The model should have a clear label and the student's name should be displayed. A packet came home with all the specifics for the project. Please help your child find information to bring to the class about their chosen landmark: books, articles, magazines, etc. Have them print out a few online sources and bring them to class if you have not already done so. Thank you so much for your support and help!
We have so much to look forward to this month. This Friday we will have a Valentine's celebration. Everyone is welcome to bring Valentine cards to pass out. Next Wednesday we will have a science test on the 16th. Science study guides will be coming home this week. We have 2 holiday weekends in a row with the 14th and 21st off. Lastly, we have our big Gold Rush day on February 23rd! Thank you to ALL of you who signed up to bring something for our upcoming activities in class. If you didn't get a chance and still want to bring something, I have added a few more items to our class wish list. Have a wonderful week everyone!!

Welcome to October! October is very busy as we are near the end of our first quarter! We have many unit tests coming up. This week we have our first unit test for Social Studies on Wednesday. We finished our study guide for Social Studies and have been using it in class to study for this test over the last week. This week we are working on a Math study guide to prepare for our Unit 2 Math test next Tuesday, October 12. The following week we will have our first unit test on Energy for Science on Tuesday, October 19. We always take time to study in class but additional study time may be needed at home to prepare and be ready for testing. Please help your child at home to feel confident about testing.
Please check in with your child again about their AR goal. I have been reminding the class to take tests on books they have finished. Your child does not need 100% of their AR goal to get a good reading grade. However, they should be working towards reaching their goal and be close to it. Please don't wait till the last minute.
Did you know as a 4th grader your child can get a FREE National Parks Pass? Typically each student would receive their pass when we go to a National Park on one of our yearly field trips. This year with field trips up in the air, your child can get their pass early. You can apply with the link below and it will come in the mail.

I can't believe we are over halfway through September, time seems to be flying by! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. The weather was beautiful and almost felt fallish to me.
LANGUAGE ARTS/READING- This week we are starting unit 2 in our new curriculum. In our reading, we are focusing on characters this week. The curriculum includes a reader's theatre at the end of each third week within the lesson that all the kids enjoyed performing in class last week. We continue to work on grammar and spelling within language arts.

In the classroom we are starting to have more of a routine and rhythm. Your kiddos are doing great! There are not too many updates this week. We will continue plugging along through our curriculum.
*In MATH we are close to finishing up our first unit. This Friday your child will bring home their first completed Math study guide. They should keep it in their homework folder to study with each night until the test. The study guide will also be used in class until the test (it should be in their homework folder😉). The test will be on Wednesday, September 15th. Study guides will be turned in for credit on Wednesday the 15th.
* This Friday is CRAZY SOCK day at school!! Please have your child join me by wearing their craziest socks whatever those may look like. It will be fun!!
Have a great week!!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Our first full week of school went extremely well last week. I have been so impressed with all of the kiddo's manners and kind words. One of our class themes this year is Kindness. We will be working hard all year to be respectful, responsible, and, kind in the classroom .
Smoothy is our class mascot, a S'mores pillow. In class, we talk a lot about adding "S'more" to our writing with characters and details.
Our math curriculum has a slower start. We have been reviewing multiplication strategies and word problems.
During Bible class, we have been learning all about what the Bible is and the truth that it shares with us.
Lastly, we are digging into our new Language Arts curriculum which involves lots of reading, grammar, and spelling. The spelling is more challenging than our previous curriculum. I know we have some excellent spellers in our class this year. Starting next week I am offering enrichment spelling to the class. Students who are studying enrichment words for the week will have a start on their desks on Tuesday morning. They will be responsible for writing their enrichment words to their weekly spelling sheet from the board to study for the week. I will give them plenty of reminders and guidance.
AR is also a part of our Language Arts/Reading curriculum. We took the Start Reading comprehension test last week. AR goals have been set! I will meet with each student this week to discuss their goal and see if we need to make it more challenging for them. You can log in to your child's account to see their goal and for them to start taking tests. Testing should be completed without parent help this year. Parents, you can help your child read the questions but please don't assist them with the answers. I want an accurate score for their comprehension. This helps me make sure they are reading books appropriate for their reading level.
WOW! That was a lot of information. Have a wonderful week. As always, email me if you have any questions!

6 school days to go! WOW!
We had such a blast last week at the carnival. They played and ran and laughed. It was glorious. I am so thankful we were able to have that celebration together. We are going to have a class party on Tuesday, June 1st. We will have our class award ceremony, red carpet and all. We are also "going" to the movies with tickets, a red carpet, popcorn, drinks, and treats. We will take a walk down the "TLCS Walk of Fame," and find our name in the stars.
Don't forget this Friday is a half-day and there is no school on Monday, May 31st. There is no spelling this week. We will have our regular math homework this week. Our last math test is this Wednesday. Your child has a completed study guide from last week in their folder. Please help your child study one last time. Encourage your child to keep reading so they can reach their final AR goals!

Happy first week of MAY!!! Last week we finished our literary essays! This week is one of my favorite weeks in writing because after reading so many graphic novels in class this year, it is now time for us to write our own! The students did an amazing job on the unit 6 math test. I can't believe how far they have come. We are on the last lesson in unit 4 for social studies, so we will start the study guide next week. We have finished the science curriculum, so we will be doing mini-lessons each week from here on out. We are sliding towards the finish line now. I really can't believe how fast the year has flown by.

They did it! Our class survived and thrived during IOWA week! We had such an incredible week doing STEAM experiments. We dissolved eggs in different solvents, tested our engineering skills, and designed cable cars and parachutes. We also did some fun activities to go with our current novel study, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. This week your kids designed and made their own chocolate candy bars and did a taste test of each one! What a special way to learn and spend time together. Thank you so much for all of the snacks you sent in to nourish and make it special for our class.
Getting to play with the other 4th graders at our recesses and lunch has literally changed the culture of our classroom. They needed new playmates. They needed more freedom. It really is amazing to see. They are so happy! We are all so thankful for this major change. Thank you, Jesus. I feel like we are have made it across a major finish line. Hope is on the rise!
We have our Unit 6 math test this Thursday. We completed the study guide together last week, so we are ready to rock this test!

What a great first week of our last quarter together! We were busy, busy, busy. We dove right in to get going on our new writing unit. We wrapped up our geology unit, and we have our test this Thursday. The study guide went home last Thursday.
Next week is IOWA testing. I sent out a sign-up for snacks throughout the week. We want to make it special and fun for the students. They are going to need lots of rest. It is a BIG week. Each afternoon we will be doing spring-themed STEAM activities. There is no math homework this week, as it is a review week to reinforce everything we have learned this year before testing.
This week we only have spelling homework and our memory verse. There will be NO homework during testing. We will get our daily reading done during school hours.

This quarter we will learn how to write literary essays. We will ask ourselves, "What is the author's purpose? What is the author trying to say?"

It's the last week of the 3rd quarter! We did it! The students have accomplished so many things this year. They have experienced the milestones of the 4th grade: Draftstic Park, Gold Rush Day, and the California Landmark Projects! Encourage your child to read, read, read! AR goals need to be met by this Friday at 8am.
We have been having such a great time in science, learning all about volcanoes, the rock cycle, and erosion. We are having our in-house hydrogeologist join us this week via Zoom, to share with us about actually working with rocks! We are really looking forward to it!
The students have been writing poetry all year, and this is our final week of poetry. We will have a poetry slam on Thursday. Think dark cafe, with people wearing black turtlenecks. Everyone should wear black on Thursday to set the scene for sharing our poems. A beret or fedora would add some flair.
It's almost time for Easter. This week in Bible class we will be studying the true meaning of Easter: the death and the resurrection of our Lord. You will notice that I changed the memory verse a little bit from what is on the spelling sheet to make it clearer for the students to memorize:
"I believe that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

We are so excited for you to see the 4th-grade auction basket. It is totally awesome! I think people are going to go wild for it. Thank you so much for donating. It made it so easy for us to purchase and put together. The whole 4th-grade team thanks you! The auction is going to be so fun. I can't wait to see all that is being offered. I will definitely be bidding on the 4th-grade basket!
This Friday is a half-day. Usually, we are staying after school to set up for the auction, but this year will be a bit different. We have ALL learned how to adapt and do things differently this year. I am so proud of all of us: our students, our staff, and our families, as we passed the accreditation with flying colors. What a blessing! Thank you all so very much.
The end of the quarter is the last day before spring break: March 26th! It is coming up quickly. We are going to start doing in-class character trait awards soon. When it is your child's day to receive an award, we will email you the video of him or her receiving it.

Another three day weekend behind us and we are halfway through February! I hope you enjoyed all the crafts and candy from our Valentine's party on Friday. We had such a fun day!
It's Gold Rush Time! This Thursday we celebrate The California Gold Rush. Have your child wear a flannel, or white t-shirt, jeans, boots, and a bandana (mask). It is such an awesome day. We will sing around the campfire, try and survive our trip out west, enjoy some home-cooked beans and bread, and seek the buried treasure. The treasure can only be found if we can get the map back from that nasty thief, Cut-Eye Higgins!

I hope you had a nice three-day weekend. Remember that next weekend is also a three-day weekend in honor of Presidents' Day. Thank you to all of you who came out and helped with our Fun Run last week. The kids did AMAZING!! It was so fun to run together. We are so thankful that we were able to exceed our fundraising goal. Thank you! Thank you!
Don't forget to get your FREE National Park Pass! All 4th graders get in free to National Parks. I even think they are extending it because of Covid restrictions. Check out their site to print out your pass or just show the park digitally. https://everykidoutdoors.gov/pass.htm Go explore!
Next week is our famous Gold Rush Day! On Thursday, February 18th please have your child wear their best 49er gear. NO, not the football team. We are encouraging everyone to dress up. Some suggestions are to wear a flannel, white t-shirt, bandana, overalls or jeans, like Levi Strauss who invented jeans. Add a hat and suspenders for extra flair. We have the mustaches for them at school that they can wear on the outside of their masks. It is one of the highlights of the year! Don't forget that our Valentine's Day party is this Friday. Your child can bring in a valentine for each of their classmates if they choose. There are 16 of us. Have a fabulous week!

Happy February!!!
They are due on March 1st. The model, that will be created at home, is due on Friday, March 5th. The model should be small enough for your child to carry and fit on a student desk (16x24 in). It should be designed and created by the students with limited support from parents as necessary. The model should have a clear label and the student's name should be displayed. Please help your child find information to bring to the class about their chosen landmark: books, articles, magazines, etc. Have them print out 2-3 online sources that they can bring to class. I have asked the students to do this over this last weekend, and bring it back today, Monday (not sure if they remembered 😉) Don't worry, there is time, and we do have some information in the classroom on most of their topics. If your child has not yet printed out any information on their topic, can you please help them do that tonight and bring their sources into the classroom tomorrow? Thank you so much for your support and help!
We have SO much going on in the classroom and coming up in February. We are kicking off our Fun Run this Friday!! The kids are getting excited and ready to run. I will be sending home more information/details about the actual day SOON. Thank you to ALL of you who signed up to bring something for our upcoming activities in class. If you didn't get a chance and still want to bring something, I have added a few more items to our class wish list. Have a wonderful week everyone!!

I would like to welcome Ms. Tamara Weber to our class, she is our new aide!!! Tamara has been an aide at TLCS for many years now. She has been an aide in a variety of grades and already knows many of your kids from past years. She is a fantastic addition to our class and we are SO happy to have her❤️ A few reminders...It is the last week of the 2nd quarter. AR goals need to be met by this Friday. There is no school on Monday, January 18th in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. I can't believe we are almost half way through the year! We are going to jump, full speed back into the swing of things and finish up the 2nd quarter. We have a big couple of weeks of review as the quarter is coming to an end. We will make study guides and work hard reviewing everything we have learned in science, social studies, and math. There will be ample time to study and prepare. The last day of the quarter is January 15th. AR goals need to be met by Friday, January 15th. We are almost halfway through the school year. It's hard to wrap my mind around it. I am thankful for all we have already learned together and all of the experiences we have shared. Let's do this 2021!!

Happy Monday morning wonderful families! We only have 4 1/2 days this week. We have so many fun crafts and holiday things going on this week. It is going to be a wonderful week together!!
Oral history interviews are due on THIS Thursday. Each child has a packet of questions to interview a Grandparent about their childhood Christmases. Kids should write the responses to each question directly on the packet. This is a wonderful time for each child to learn something new about how a different generation celebrated Christmas.
If you have supplies for our Christmas party, please bring them by Friday morning at the latest. Thanks!

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a restful and wonderful Thanksgiving break. We are jumping right back into the swing of school as we count down to Christmas! We are continuing our study on energy in Science. This week the kids will create their own chain reactions in class. We are continuing to learn about the explorers and their influence in CA in Social Studies. We are wrapping up our persuasive writing essays this week and everyone will be presenting them to the class. In Math, we are picking up where we left off on measurement and shapes. We are loving our novel study, Winn-Dixie right now. During Bible class we are talking about Advent and the birth of Jesus! I am loving this season of giving and being reminded to have a joyful heart. Have a wonderful week!

Happy Thanksgiving!
I love this season of thankfulness. We are having such a blast in science class as we store up energy. Last week we made bumper coasters and this week the fun continues as we add twists and turns. We are deep into the explorers and settlers of CA, as we learn about the influence that Spain and Mexico have had on our state. Everyone has begun working on their opinion writing piece. "Write it strong and write it long!" In Bible class we are learning about having a spirit of thankfulness. We just finished our read aloud, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and it was just as wonderful as it was when I was in the fourth grade. We started out next novel study, Winn-Dixie, which is always one of my favorites! It is going to be a very special week. We will finish up the week with some Thanksgiving activities on Friday! If you have not already done so, please fill out the new snack/holiday treats form by clicking on the link below so your child is able to join us for a treat in class this Friday. Remember that next week we have the entire week off!!! Enjoy the time with your families!

Happy Monday to you all! Remember that this Wednesday we do not have school in honor of our brave veterans.
We kicked off our science unit building cars. I hope your child showed you how we stored energy by putting in the "work." Each time we twisted the rubber band it would store energy just waiting to be released. Some students had great success, while others spun out of control. So much fun! This week we will store energy by releasing an object from different heights. We are having a great time learning all about opinion essays. Last week we debated whether or not cell phones should be allowed in schools. The students then wrote a persuasive essay on what book their classmates should next read. This week we pick our opinion projects and start our thesis statements. I can't wait to see what the students choose to defend. So special! Remember that our math test is tomorrow. Please have your child return their math study guide tomorrow for credit. Thank you! Have a fabulous week.

Hello Families! Thank you for a wonderful week of conferences. It was so nice to get to know your children more through your eyes. It is always lovely to connect. We had the most wonderful harvest party on Friday. Thank you to Kim Kazemi and Jen Hoffseth for providing treats and everything we needed to make slime!
Starting next week I am offering enrichment spelling to the class. Each week we will have a spelling pre-test on Monday. If a student misses less than 3 words, they will add the 5 enrichment words to their studying for the week. These words are meant for a challenge and can only be added as extra credit. If anyone scores a 100% on the pre-test, then they will only study the enrichment words for the week. The enrichment words will follow the same rule that we are studying that week. This week is an assessment week, so all of the words are from social studies and science. They are difficult, so no one reached the enrichment words this week, but I am sure many will next week. I will start to add them to the weekly spelling sheet.
Today we registered to vote and learned what is required to become the President of the United States. Each student will come up with their own campaign slogan. Tomorrow is ELECTION DAY and we will cast our votes. This week we are beginning our science unit on energy. Look for their cars to come home and ask your child how they stored up energy to power their car. We will be starting on a math study guide on Wednesday of this week. The math test will be on Tuesday, November 10th. Remember that next week is Veteran's Day and we will not have school on Wednesday, November 11th.

Welcome to the 2nd quarter parent/teacher conference week! I love starting a new quarter. Everything is new and we have a fresh start. In social studies we are studying the Native Americans, explorers, and the missions of California. In science we are beginning our energy unit which is the absolute best! We start our opinion writing essays and will choose a topic that we are passionate about defending. In math we continue to work on long division and multiplication strategies. It is a very exciting time and I am looking forward to learning together. Tuesday-Friday will be half days. 4th grade dismissal is at 11:50. Please be on time, because I often have conferences at 12:30, and this will allow me to eat lunch. This Friday, for our harvest party, we will have pajama day. I look forward to meeting with each of you this week.

This is the last week of the first quarter of school! How is that even possible? These students have navigated so many changes in just this first quarter and they have come out on top! Please encourage your child to be taking their final AR quizzes this week. Our AR goals need to be met by Friday morning as the school day begins. I am really looking forward to meeting with each of you next week.
Don't forget that we have a science test on Wednesday. We sent home the study guide on Friday, and your child should be studying at home. They are going to do great. Here is a link to a Jeopardy game that we made for them to use for practice: https://www.playfactile.com/besksciencehumanmachine .They love to practice with Jeopardy. So fun!

Genesis 1:27 "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." This week in Bible we are talking about how we are created in God's image.
Hello Families!
It’s already the middle of October, and that means our first quarter is almost over. We are finishing up our units and making sure all of our work is turned in. This is a big week for our fourth graders. We have a math test TOMORROW, Tuesday and a social studies’ test on Wednesday. We have been practicing and studying in class, but they need the reinforcement at home as well. Please remind your child to bring their study guide back to class on test day so that they can get credit for their hard work.
I look forward to meeting with you during parent-teacher conferences, the last week of October. Just a reminder, October 27th-30th are half days so that we can meet. I will be sending out a sign-up sheet this week.
As we begin our FOURTH week of in-person learning, I feel like we have all adjusted to the new routine. If your child is ever absent, just let the office and me know, so that I can turn on our Zoom Room. The permanent code for the year is 297- 439 -3127. Friday is a half-day, for the teachers to have an in-service. I hope you have a wonderful week!
As always, please email me if you have any questions. Have a great week!
