Who: Each district shall hold at least one caucus, which shall be coordinated with a YMCA Staff member.
What: The word “caucus” simply means a meeting of those taking part in Youth & Government to elect officials and discuss the following:
Purpose of Youth & Government
Schedule
Pre Legislative Session and Legislative Assembly
Logistical Details such as transportation and registration (as needed)
Drafting a Bill
Bill Topics (if needed)
Path of a Bill
Actual Bills Students Have Written (if available)
When: District Caucuses shall be held between January 1 - February 1, 2025. District Caucuses shall be scheduled in coordination with YMCA staff for a time and on a day that will allow for the greatest number of schools and students to participate in the caucus. Care must be taken to coordinate the scheduling of the caucus with the advisor from each school/program. Results are due by February 7, 2025
Where: District Caucuses are held at local high schools or YMCAs
Why: The purpose of each District Caucus is for delegates to:
Learn more about the program
Determine a candidate for Governor and Speaker of the House
Choose members of the Senate, House, Supreme Court, Governor’s Council, etc. as required of the district.
Inform district delegates of upcoming bills.
The Date, Time, and Location of the district caucus along with a list of schools who are planning to attend must be emailed to Deb Galipeault, Director of Youth and Government prior to the caucus.
