Being successful in class revolves around all of us having the same expectations, the same normal of how our classroom works (norms), and understanding what those expectations & norms are.
Here's how it works in Mr. Duncan's classes
Attending Skills & Classroom Norms
Classroom Norms:
Prompt - Be on time to class and get your work turned in on time!
Prepared - Come to class prepared with materials and positive attitude. Let's all be positive.
Polite - Treat one another politely and with respect
Positive Mental Attitude - Come ready to work and to be a part of our classroom community. Be on task and attentive.
Participate - Be a part of classroom activitiies, when asked a question do your best to answer it. This classroom is a safe place.
Produce - Do your classwork and your homework. Always do excellent work!
Important Learning Skills (attending skills)
Being in the Moment - Listening to the lesson, listening when your teacher is talking, focusing on other student's as they appropriately participate in the lesson.
Appropriate Body Language - What does your bosy language say? Here is a funny video to remind us of appropriate body language.
Appropriate Eye Contact - Friends Video watch first 45 seconds. Notice the eye contact...Yikes!
Appropriate Feedback - When working in a on-on-one, small or large group situation be kind and on-point when providing feedback.
Questions to Clarify or Validate - If you don't get something, ask or clarification. If your unsure ask for validation to make sure you acutally do get it. This is likely the #1 habit of all successful students and adults.
The Other Stuff
There is absolutely no online music or video streaming allowed in this lab by students during class time.
If cell phones are out or even seen sticking on tiny little bit out of your pocket, bag, shirt, or whatever, I will ask you to turn it in to me for safe keeping based on the new policy.
Using or having your cell phone out means it will be turned into the office and your parent or legal guardian will be required to pick it up for you.
10 and 10 Rule. Students will not be allowed to leave class ten minutes after the bell has rung and ten minutes before the final bell rings. Be in seat and stay seated when bell rings!!!
Seating is assigned in our class. Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings and stay in your seat unless given permission to get up and roam about. The restroom rule is the only exception to this assignment.
When the bell rings at the start of class, be ready to go - have all necessary materials out and be working on the daily warm-up. Backpacks off and under desk, be...ready to go.
No Food is allowed in the lab.
Drinks are permitted only if they are in a spill-proof container and must be kept off of the computer tables.
Class lab time is expected to be spent in lab work. Lab time is not free time.
Students are to treat computers, cameras, printers and all equipment carefully and with respect.
Students may use restroom without one at a time, using one of the small passed located on the table in the front of the room. Students may only use the restrooms located on the west end (near cafeteria) of building.
You do not need to ask to use the restroom. If a pass is there, go. If it is not there, wait until it returns.
You must leave your phone in your bag or on my desk. It cannot leave the room with you to the bathroom.
No use of the rest room is allowed during any teaching time.
If a lesson is in progress there are no bathroom privledges.
This flexible policy is not a right, it is a way to respect you as a person and take care of your own personal needs.
Students needing to go anywhere other than the restroom must seek permission from instructor. Violation of my very flexible policy will result in you needing to ask everytime.
