College Bound Senior Year Timeline
August/September
Start thinking about adults who can comment positively on you for letters of recommendation. Be sure to give them at least 2 weeks to write the letter.
Narrow the list of colleges you’re interested in applying to.
Keep track of deadlines and admission limits.
Ask about Fee Waivers if you qualify for free/reduced lunch.
Meet with college admissions reps when the come to your school.
Meet with your School Counselor to review the college application process.
Start searching for scholarships.
October-December
Apply for a FSA ID for your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid @ www.fafsa.gov
On or after December 1st, begin filling out the FAFSA form online @ www.fafsa.gov
Continue to look for and apply to scholarships.
Work on admission essays if needed.
Complete applications by priority deadlines (determined by each college) Remember to ask about Fee Waivers if you qualify for free/reduced lunch.
Keep up with your class work and tests.
Keep up with email/mail communication from the colleges you apply to.
January - May
Stay on track to graduate. Colleges do look at your final transcript.
Notify schools that you have chosen NOT to attend.
Keep on top of local scholarships and know their deadlines.
Read & review your financial aid reports you receive from colleges. If you’re eligible for work study, complete the paperwork ASAP to ensure job placement.
Investigate housing options.
2-year college, begin looking for apartments in the area.
4 year college, be sure to complete your housing paperwork by the deadline. Make sure to pay all deposits on time; priority housing goes to those that have turned their paperwork in early.
Make sure Mrs. Eckstein knows where to send your final transcripts after graduation.
Watch for information about orientation and registration sign-ups.
Summer
Continue to save money for college. Keep track of how much you spend during each week and think about how much spending money you’ll want in college…SAVE, SAVE, SAVE.
Connect with your future roommate when you find out who it is to help with your decisions on what to bring.
Begin gathering items for your residence hall room/apartment-be thoughtful of your funds.
Have a general knowledge of your college’s required core classes so registration is not so confusing.
