Presentation Description: The GMMS drum group was formed in April 2021. The group began with the goal of learning and performing the Lakota Flag song on a weekly basis. The goal going forward is continuing to learn traditional songs and the stories behind them, so the students can pass on this knowledge to future generations. Our drum was donated by Kyle Schierbeck of Washington State, Kyle also donated a set of custom made drum sticks. Daniel Traversie offered to help assist in forming the group and meets with the students on a weekly basis. Michael Vasilie, band instructor at GMMS assists weekly as well. None of this would be possible without the support of GMMS Principal Dr. Kyley Cumbow, her support of the group and incorporating as much of the culture as possible into the school has been the difference maker. It has been a group effort to make this happen and as a group we look forward to keeping this group together for years to come.
