Identification

Identification Process

In order to be identified as gifted and talented, Mrs. Marchman will collect a body of evidence from student academic data, teacher and parent observations, and cognitive tests. Identification areas include: Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Creativity and Leadership. Parents and teachers can request Mrs. Marchman begin collecting data for identification. To request your student be tested, please contact Mrs. Marchman at janice.marchman@thompsonschools.org.

CogAT Screener

All incoming sixth graders will be given the CogAT screener. This is a cognitive test that students take to determine if Mrs. Marchman should begin to collect a body of evidence for gifted identification. The screener is not a piece of data that can be used in the body of evidence, but it can be a good indication of what data is needed for which students to complete identification. Students in Thompson School District were also screened universally in 2nd grade.

Talent Pool

Bill Reed is happy to invite students to participate in the Talent Pool. These students are those who Mrs. Marchman is collecting a body of evidence on. Mrs. Marchman likes to keep as many students in the talent pool as possible, but it is driven by data and parent/teacher request. Please reach out to Mrs. Marchman if you have questions or want your child to be evaluated for talent pool.
