Today I spent time in my stream collecting the pH, conductivity and temperature, as well as an e. coli sample. The sun was out, and the section of my stream that I was testing was moslty shaded by surrounding trees. The banks were covered in various types of vegetation, the coltsfoot and ferns taking up the majority of the space. While sampling, I took notice of the many water striders that were on the wide, calmer parts of the stream, as well as the frogs hidden beneath the bank alongside the roots of long grass. My stream has flooded several times, and there is still a pile of sediment on the shore left over from last year. Small sticks and dead leaves have been wedged in between rocks, and piles of sand and rocks are now uncovered along the edges of the stream, exposing what used to be bottom. While walking around, I saw a small frog (seen in one of my sketches) as well as a few different flowers. My habitat assessment total came out to be 138, and for the pH I got around 6.8 - 7, although the photo of the pH paper below is a little faded. The conductivity was around 256 and the temperature around 16 degrees Celsius.
