Throughout the year, children are assessed in maths three times (at the end of every term). These assessments are used to assess if the children are working at, working above, working towards or working below expectations. But these assessments are only the start as we use the results to determine if there are children who might need a little catch-up or intervention - these will then be built into lessons or worked with individuals depending on the need. We use the White Rose Maths Assessments in Years 1, 3 & 4 and in Years 2, 5 & 6 we used past SATs papers.
These assessment results will help teacher to make their Teacher Assessments which is then reported to parents.
In Year 6, the children will sit end of key stage assessments commonly known as SATs. These assessments will test the children's understanding on what they have covered in that and the previous years. We prepare the children by exposing them to SATs style questions whilst also following the White Rose Maths framework. With this mastery approach, the children will be able to select a method that they are comfortable with in order to answer arithmetic and reasoning questions.
In Year 4, the children will sit the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). These will assess the accuracy and speed to which the children can answer a set of multiplication questions. By the end of Year 4, children should know all of the tables to 12 x 12 and this is in line with the National Curriculum. In order for the children to be ready for the assessments, they are taught times tables discreetly and time is timetabled daily for practising them.
The school subscribe to Times Tables Rock Stars. This is a fun and interactive way to learn times tables. This can be accessed through your internet browser - https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth or Apps can be downloaded from your App Store.
