School Environment

Please share this page with your children so they can start to get to know their new school environment.

Our outdoor area has been recently renovated and the children have been loving exploring it. We mirror our indoor areas outside and on a larger scale. This allows the children to embed their learning and master skills that have been taught during our carpet times.

Our indoor areas have been set up to reflect the theme that we are teaching for that half term. It is also closely linked to the skill and understanding that we want the children to learn for that period. Below are some examples of different areas within our classrooms.

Reading is of the upmost importance to us at The Mill. We are always looking for ways to make reading fun and exciting for the children to encourage their love of reading. Our Read Write Inc. sessions really encourage this but so do our classroom areas. Each classroom, as well as outside, have a reading area. These areas are themed and changed regularly to reflect the children's interest.

Early Years begins by introducing writing through mark making. We teach writing through a scheme called Talk For Writing. This is an immersive, thematic scheme that exposes the children to writing in every area of their learning.

The Mill teaches maths through Maths Mastery. This involves carpet sessions and small group sessions. We then reflect the learning intentions in the activities we put out in the environment for the children to freely access and embed the learning.
