Home Learning

There is a wealth of resources available online to support you- we have selected a few of our favourites below. We have included links to our curriculum and other reading that you might find useful before your little one joins us in September.

We teach in Reception in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum called Development Matters. It has a wealth of information about what the children will be learning and when.

At The Mill we love sharing your child's progress. We do this through an online learning journey called Tapestry. Tapestry allows us at school, and you at home, to add photos, videos and descriptions of special moments along their learning journey. It also helps us bridge that home school gap so we can all work together to help the children achieve their full potential. Click on the link to find out more information.

Working alongside Tapestry, we also use an application called Marvellous Me. This is a 'good news app' that parents and teachers have. It allows teachers to send out notifications of the wonderful learning the children are doing at school. It also allows us to send little messages and reminders. It gives the children virtual badges for different activities which they can collect. The whole school uses this application so it follows them through the school, helping with transition and encouraging positive learning habits. Follow the link to learn more.

In Reception we follow Mathematics Mastery. Maths Mastery is a comprehensive scheme of work that allows all children to enjoy and succeed in maths. The rest of the school also use this scheme which means that the children have a solid foundation and are ready to continue their maths journey into Year One and beyond. Follow the link below to learn more about how we teach and how the children learn maths at The Mill.

At The Mill we teach the children to read by helping them learn through a scheme called Read Write Inc. It involves using phonics to help the children to sound out words to help them read and segment words to help them spell. Click on the logo for the parent guide page on their website.

Here at The Mill we teach writing through Talk For Writing. It is an immersive way of teaching writing that encourages the children to get to know stories and use this knowledge to help them in their writing. We teach writing using this scheme across the whole school which really helps children transition through the school and make the most of their writing.
