Letters from Your Chairs

Hello delegates, 

My name is Eloise Speach and I am thrilled to be your co-chair of the General Assembly this year! We will be simulating the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and dealing with two vital topics within the committee's larger focus of the global environmental agenda and our collective ability to meet the sustainable development goals. I have only attended two MUN conferences, but despite my Model UN experience being less than that of some of my peers, I have quickly developed a genuine love for the activity and the many skills it has taught me. I participated in HagueMUN last year as a delegate, so I know firsthand what to expect and how to help all of you have the best possible Model UN experience! Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, running, knitting, and most of all, I love playing with my crazy dogs and cats, who definitely keep me busy! I will also be serving as the Director General of HagueMUN this year, so I’ll be open to feedback on how to improve the conference throughout each day. I am so excited to hear all of the amazing ideas and solutions that you will come up with during the conference. The two topics we have chosen—Combatting Illegal Wildlife Trafficking and Protecting Endangered Species and Reducing Plastic Pollution in Oceans—are difficult, but my co-chair, Christian, and I believe in your capabilities and hope you have fun researching (we chose this topic because it’s arguably one of the most fun to learn about)! Model UN can be intimidating, but we’re here to help you learn and grow so don’t be scared! I promise we’ll do our best to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. I can’t wait to meet you all and see what you come up with! Happy HagueMUN!

Hello delegates, 

My name is Christian Heering, and I am a junior at the Hague School. I am very excited to be Co-Chair of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). My favorite things to do are spending time with my family and friends and enjoying good food. I am super passionate about the environment, and I love sailing boats, rock climbing, and exploring new places. Both sailing and traveling have given me a deep appreciation of nature through spending time on the water visiting incredible sights around the world. Because of these experiences, I am especially eager for us to discuss critical environmental issues both on land and at sea, including protecting endangered species and combatting ocean pollution. HagueMUN is a great opportunity to meet new people and sharpen your public speaking skills. I am looking forward to seeing you all in October!
