About the GTA

Goals

• Provide a forum for different environmental clubs to share their goals and how they achieve those, as well as receive feedback from other clubs.

• Create a standard succession plan for all environmental clubs to ensure they keep operating when leaders graduate.

• Allow club leaders to collaborate so that the goals of all of the environmental clubs are aligned (if all of the clubs are working on the same topic, such as recycling or raising climate awareness, action becomes more feasible). 

• Focus on specific topics that can be directly addressed in local schools, including:

  • Recycling/Compost

  • Policy Advocacy

  • Raising awareness of climate change

• Create a group of local teens who can be mobilized for climate action (such as by speaking at City Hall, helping with community events, etc.).

• Provide resources and support to environmental clubs so that they can successfully carry out their goals.

Green Teen Alliance Group Agreements

To facilitate productive conversation and meaningful action, Green Teen Alliance participants are expected to:

• Be respectful of other participants and their ideas.

  • There are no bad ideas; don’t judge what others suggest, give meaningful and polite feedback instead.

  • Don’t talk while others are speaking.

  • Be kind to everyone.

  • Be respectful of the meeting location; follow its rules and leave it as you found it.

• Actively participate in discussions and listen to others.

• Take the topics seriously; the Green Teen Alliance can create meaningful environmental change.

• Communicate information from GTA meetings to other members of your school’s environmental club, which allows them to engage with the GTA and keeps everyone on the same page.

• Share your ideas! Any ideas for projects/activities, community outreach, GTA structure/function, and anything else are always welcome.

We would appreciate if each high school environmental club in Charlottesville, Albemarle, and Fluvanna participated in the GTA. This ensures that the different clubs are each aware of environmental action happening at other schools, and can collaborate on important efforts.
