Cognition and Learning: A pupil might learn at a slower pace than others their age, have difficulty in understanding, difficulty with organisation, poor memory skills, or have a specific difficulty affecting one particular part of their learning; such as in literacy or numeracy.
In Year 1 and 2, English and Maths Learning Success groups allow pupils who require a more bespoke approach to their learning to work in a group of six. In Year 3 and 4, there is a Learning Success group for English of twelve pupils, similarly offering additional support. In Maths in Year 3 and 4, groups are streamed to enable adjustments to the pace and scaffolding provided. In Years 5 and 6 both English and Maths are streamed. The composition of all these groups is decided by teachers and is fluid so they can change throughout the year.
Adult-led intervention groups are provided as needed to address misconceptions in pupils’ learning or gaps between their achievement and potential. These intervention groups take place during non-core subjects in Pre-Prep and during ERIC slots in Prep. Additionally, some pupils benefit from a teaching assistant checking in daily to assist them with learning specific facts such as number bonds or times tables. This takes place throughout the day for short intervals (five or ten minutes) regularly.
