Service Learning @ The FIS
The FIS has a long history of outstanding service learning through its established CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) programme in the IB Diploma. Our aim for Service as Action in the Middle Years Programme is to develop this further, creating stronger community links for our G6 - G10 students, through an increasingly wider range of community partners. By doing this, students will also be better prepared for the transition to the IB Diploma.
The focus for students should be on the quality of their service, not the quantity. We aim to provide service for our community partners that is both effective and sustainable.
Creativity, Action and Service @ The FIS
Below are listed some of the current CAS service projects happening @ the FIS which MYP students can also become involved in.
Students can sign up to some of these by contacting Mr Greener or the Student Leaders
The FIS has an extensive group of community partners that we have historically worked with and we want to develop these connections and encourage MYP students to continue to support them. Below are a list of existing community partners that we would suggest our students to use for their service activities and community projects:
Bookbridge - With our Vision 2025, we believe in a world of purpose-driven leaders. To achieve this, we scale the impact created by our action learning programs while empowering our social enterprises to move from self-sustaining to profitability. By 2025, we aim at developing 2,000 purpose-driven leaders while creating impact with 300 social enterprises. As a result, we will impact 1,000,000 people by 2025.
Nicaronia - Creating links with schools in Nicaragua and organising aid.
Gender and Sexualities Alliance (GSA) - Offer a non-judgmental space in which group members can safely explore their identity, as well as build awareness and inclusivity at the FIS around gender and sexuality.
FIS PAWS - Supporting local animal shelters.
Debate Club - Encouraging people to speak publicly and form their arguments convincingly.
FIS Connections - Develop mentoring skills to provide mentorship across the school through the Buddy Program, as well as through running workshops with younger students on a variety of themes
FIS Yearbook - Developing the FIS Yearbook as a team
Model United Nations - focusing on diplomacy and problem solving in real world contexts
If students feel passionate about a community partner or charity on a local or global scale, then we will support them to provide service opportunities where possible.
