Learning to Give. Stages of service learning - Youtube. 6th July 2017.
When planning an activity or project, students will need to follow the stages of the Service Learning model. This will enable them to use the skills and knowledge they have learnt throughout the MYP and allow them to put them to use in service projects.
Students will spend time Investigating their activities or projects, before Preparing them, and finally taking Action. Throughout these different stages, students should be reflecting on the successes, challenges and experiences they have along the way.
When planning a service activity, students should also refer to the compassionate learning tools they have learnt in Wellbeing, to support their Investigation, Preparation, and Action.
Come up with the idea! Who do you want to help? How and why? Use the document linked here to plan
Discuss this with friends and peers. Who may want to join in with your service idea? Do you want to engage with one of our external partners from Erlangen and Nuremberg? If yes, use this spreadsheet to find out more
Decide which Learning Outcomes this idea/project will achieve.
Log this idea on Managebac
Start planning and organising your service idea. The logistics, what you will collect, what you will do, who is doing what?
Start adding reflections to Managebac, this can include photos, emails and evidence of your planning. You should aim to do one reflection every 1-2 weeks.
Respond to supervisor comments and look at ways to improve what you are doing.
Ask your supervisor to check over your activity/project when you think you have completed it. This means achieving all of the Learning Outcomes you selected.
