10 Sports Institute
In 10 Sports Institute students will participate in and develop in-depth insight to:
Strength and Conditioning (cardiovascular fitness; core, stretching and flexibility; body weight exercises and weight training)
Nutrition
New Zealand Sporting Legends
Sports Preparation & Rehabilitation
Sports Specific Training - development of personal training programmes
Goal Setting
Anatomy and Biomechanics Video Analysis
Sports Institute is a mixture of theory and practical lessons. Sports Institute enables potential top athletes to gain knowledge of scientific and technical principles that apply to sports performance and exercise. An in-depth understanding of the students own sport and to model different forms of training that students can apply to their own sport.
COURSE OUTLINE
The 10 Sports Institute course includes two internal achievement standards. These are:
1.8 Take purposeful action to assist others to participate in physical activity. 2 credits
1.9 Demonstrate self management strategies and describe the effects on participation in physical activity. 3 credits
The Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre of NZ
As part of the 10 Sports Institute, students have the opportunity spend a week at the Hillary Outdoors Pursuits Centre in the Tongariro National Park.
Hillary Outdoors delivers quality outdoor programmes to school age students. This opportunity enables students to challenge themselves physically and mentally. Students walk away from Hillary Outdoors knowing more about themselves, their environment and their place in the world. Students will have the opportunity to participate in activities such as high ropes courses, white water rafting, tramping, overnight expeditions, snowboarding/skiing, rock climbing, abseiling, navigating, problem solving activities and confidence building.
