YEAR 12 CAMP 2021

Words from two year 12 Physical Education students

  • We went Action Matakana Military Arts centre from Sunday 14th - 16th March. This was to support the 2.10 assessment “Analyse group processes in physical activities” which consists of us using processes to solve problems which we are faced as a group. For example some group processes would be effective communication, working cooperatively and resolving conflict in a group situation.

  • Whilst at the camp the activities we did was a 3 hour hike up Mount Tamahunga, a snorkelling assessment at goat island, a coastal walk, an assault course, and some small team building activities in between. We went out at Goat Island marine reserve and was privileged enough to see the variety of fish such as snapper, the native goatfish, red moki and many more species of fish. Some groups even went swimming with an Eagle Ray.

  • Over camp as we needed to reach a depth of 3.2m while equalising on the way down. We had learnt these skills previously through a couple of sessions in the school pool. To be able to perform these skills from a theory session to a 2 hour practical assessment in the ocean was a useful life skill which could be transferred into the real world.

  • We hiked up Mt tamahunga for 3 hours whilst carrying out team challenges along the way. Which proved difficult at some points as the terrain was very steep but this also allowed the teams to see the group processes that we had studied in class and transfer them to an outdoor experience.
