We live in a country where menstruating goddess in worshipped and celebrated but at the same time menstruating women remains an untouched concept as well as taboo. This has led to thousands of women silently suffering due to lack of self awareness to address menstrual health, access to menstrual products, poor sanitation and vague stigmas.
Indian National Congress (INC) with a rich history of prioritizing public health especially of female hygiene is believed to be an appropriate mouthpiece for this urgent and neglected issue. Menstrual health does not only require or call for schemes on distribution of sanitary products but also to create general consciousness among people about menstruation as biological phenomena than a hushed conversation.
An in-depth review of issues dealt by Indian National Congress has drawn our focus towards this cause and our group has decided to focus on women empowerment through taking up the issue on women menstrual health and hygiene in India. Since, INC has had a Pan-Indian presence across the nation, therefore, instead of limiting it to one region, or state, we aim to create awareness for a much larger section of women as our targeted voters.
Selected Issue: Menstrual Health and Hygiene
Target Voters:
Women in India especially in rural areas with lack of access to menstrual health awareness.
