Health Screenings from Your Pediatrician
Physical Exams are due for all new students, and for every student in grades K, 4, 7, and 10. All immunizations must be up to date.
Kindergarten also requires a vision screening (including stereopsis)and a lead screening by a clinician before entering school.

Health Screenings in School
The following screenings will be performed in school according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations. We will ensure privacy and confidentiality during the screening procedures.
Note: If the results do not fall within the appropriate guidelines for hearing, vision and postural screening, the school nurse will contact the parent/guardian and refer for further follow-up with the student’s clinician. Other screening results may be requested by the parents/guardians.
Vision: Grades Pre K-5, 7, and 9 (A vision screening (including stereopsis) by a clinician is also required before Kindergarten entrance)
Hearing: Grades K-3, 7, and 9
Height and Weight: Grades 1, 4, 7, and 9
Postural Screening: Grades 5-9
SBIRT: 7 and 9
Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)
SBIRT is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment services for persons with substance use disorders, as well as those who are at risk of developing these disorders.

Schools are required by Massachusetts General Law to provide health screenings for students (M.G.L. Chapter 71, Section 57 and 105 CMR 200.000) and follow up with the results of these screenings with families and referrals to primary health care providers as necessary.
Any parent may opt out of specific screenings by submitting a written request. Please provide documention to the school nurse of the screenings completed by child's medical provider.
