1. Andrew Marr's 'A History of Modern Britain' and 'The Making of Modern Britain' BBC TV series.
2. 'The Iron Lady' (2011) film starring Meryl Streep and 'Pride' (2014) film written by Steven Beresford give two very different takes on the Thatcher years.
3. For the truly committed the BBC series 'Thatcher: A very British revolution' is excellent but very heavy going. It is available on iPlayer.
4. The news! particularly stories about British politics, the British economy and British culture and society.

LISTEN
1. Not always relevant to our course, but excellent fun and will expand your historical knowledge is the 'You're Dead To Me' BBC Podcast with Greg Jenner. Warning: some strong language and often very funny.
2. Listen to some of the popular music from the Britain's past, particularly from the 1960s onwards.
Try The Beatles and The Kinks from the 60s, David Bowie, The Clash and The Specials in the 70s and The Smiths from the 1980s. I've tried to recommend artists who did include some social commentary in their work.
DO
1. Learn the names and dates of all British Prime Ministers from 1916 until the present.
2. Never turn down an opportunity to visit a museum or site of historical interest - you will always learn something!
