The 3 Parts of Daily Zoom Instruction

Instructional Video

On Zoom, we will watch a video explaining the topic or skill to be addressed. Videos will be created by myself or pulled from outside resources (Khan) and will include closed captions. Students will take notes in their notebooks.

Links for these videos will be provided to students before the Zoom and can be accessed after to help them complete independent practice.

Teacher Modeling

After we all watch the video, I will complete a 10 minute instructional demonstration walking through the skill/topic with student input and strategic questioning. I will use a document camera, traditional white board, and other tools to make this portion of instruction as thorough as possible. Students will follow along with their personal whiteboards/notebooks.

Breakout Rooms

Students will then be sent to carefully selected small groups on Zoom (called breakout rooms) with well-structured procedures and specific questions that they are to work through together. Each group will work through various problems together while talking, sharing ideas, trying new methods, and explaining their reasoning to their peers. Myself, Ms. Hargrove, and other staff will pop into the various small group meetings to provide feedback, ask questions, and ensure all students are working collaboratively.

Independent Practice

After the daily Zoom, students will be given access to a variety of resources that will help them continue practicing that skill. The independent practice piece will be tailored to each student individually and reflect their level of understanding and math goals. For some students, this will look like 3 practice problems to be turned in the next day. For others, it will be a 1:1 conference on Zoom where I complete another whiteboard modeling session. For others, it will mean meeting with a small group to complete 5 problems. Students will be given their independent practice assignments at the end of the Zoom on Google Classroom.

1:1 Math Conferencing

I will ensure students who are struggling in daily Zooms set up a conference for 1:1 tutoring and math goal setting. If your child isn't identified by myself or Ms. Hargrove as needing this service, but if they would like to meet with me, they can do so by signing up for a conference via SignUpGenius. SignUpGenius schedule availability will be sent weekly!

** Q&A time is great for asking quick questions, but it does function like traditional office hours and I can't promise that I'll be able to devote a significant amount of time to one student between 10:30-12 pm. This is why it's very important to use the link above to schedule 1:1 tutoring*
