ALS Association

Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with – or dies from – ALS.

ALS - otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease - takes away the freedom to walk, talk, run and dance. To laugh. To hug. To eat. To breathe. The ALS Association's mission is to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest.

Huge THANK YOU to Jimmie Cone - the best soft serve this side of the Mississippi and the place I called home for 8 years - for sending me off and so generously contributing to my fundraiser. The owners said they would donate and match all the tips brought in during my last shift at The Cone. Thank you to all the friends, family, acquaintances or random strangers who came out to support the ALS Association as well as my ride. It meant the world.

A fundraiser in honor of Rodney Lapp

Rodney had a profound impact on my life as a mentor in faith and coach on the basketball court. I saw the quick and tragic progression of his health due to ALS while I was in high school/college. A member of Neelsville Presbyterian Church, he had a strong relationship with Jesus Christ and wanted everyone else to know about Him. He served the church in many capacities as Elder, Trustee, and Missionary. He especially had a passion for work camps and using his hands to serve those in need. Rodney loved his family and friends and lived his life to the fullest. He and Jane were married for 38 years and raised three children, Jason, Kara, and Kristy. He loved cards, coin collecting, Nationals baseball, traveling, hiking, biking, running, fishing, golfing, experimenting with cooking, smoking meats, and eating, especially crabs. Rodney never met a stranger; he spent his life listening and encouraging lives. When Rodney was in the room, his loud contagious laugh filled the space. Rodney biked the C&O canal in Maryland several times and I know he would be ecstatic to hear about this trip. His legacy of humility, resiliency, and faith will live on.

Rodney Charles Lapp, 62, went home to be with Jesus on October 16, 2019.
