Te Kaahui Ako o Te Oko Horoi
Cambridge is a unique place in NZ for many reasons. Aside from its rich multicultural heritage and clear ties to sporting excellence, it holds the possibility of providing an educational pathway for all our students; from the moment they begin schooling, through to the opportunities that wait for them in later life.
Since Mid 2014 school leaders from across Cambridge have been meeting to identify the uniting factors between all our schools, investigating the achievement challenges we have in common and collaborating on a pathway forward that will increase achievement and reduce disparity for all our learners.
The Whaangai Ki te Kaihoe - Across school leader and Kaihoe - Within School Positions are an opportunity for some of our best educators from across Cambridge to partner with like-minded professionals to lift their educational expertise to another level for the children that they work with, while also working with other teachers from across Cambridge to inquire into strategies that accelerate achievement for students.
We currently use our workshops to help amplify and build capability and capacity across Te Oko Horoi. Te Ohu Kaiaarahi o te Kapua iti, Mana Enhancing practice, Ngaa Pou o Te Oko Horoi and nurture our connection with Mana Whenua - Ngaati Korokii Kahukura and Ngaati Hauaa.
This is a unique opportunity to pioneer a shift in the way we support educators to extend practice in ways that are both individually and collectively purposeful while also being professionally rewarding.
From the confusion comes understanding, from the understanding comes unity, we are interwoven, we are interconnected, together we learn!

Celebration Day - Te Wiki o Te Reo Maaori
On 19th of September 2024, over a hundred people attended this annual event, which included tamariki, whaanau, kaiako and leaders who came to join the early morning Pai Marire.
Our Mana Whenua roopu led the occasion, and explained the purpose of the celebration with the attendees. During the karakia some of the tohu made themselves present to tautoko the importance of the mahi. Celebrating the enduring connectedness of Mana Whenua with our kura and centres.
Haerenga - February 2024 : We love the annual Haerenga! This is where we learn some of our local history, at a few of the local sites of significance. This is made possible through the generosity of Ngaati Korokii Kahukura.
Thanks to Karaitiana, Harry, and Mana Whenua for sharing some of your taonga with the 70 local kura teachers, leaders, special guests, and members of our Boards.
Session 1 for 2024 was a great success! 120 Tumuaki, Kaiako, ECE and RTLB from across Cambridge attended this koha from Ngaati Korokii Kahukura Mana Whenua.

Mahi tahi - working together!
Start of Year Hui 2024 - On the 8th of February, around 50 kaiako and tumuaki from our local kura and ECE centres came together for our start of year hui. During this time we introduced our Whaangai ki te Kaihoe team members, shared our 2024 Achievement challenge, and discussed our threads of mahi for 2024.
Rukumoana Marae
November 3rd, 2022. We shared a fabulous day - for the last gathering of Te Ohu Kaiaarahi o te Kapua iti.
We were honoured to be able to attend a very special day of celebration and learning at our visit to Rukumoana marae with some of our treasured aakonga, manawhenua, kaiako, tumuaki and whaanau.
There were 91 students from across 11 kura within our Kaahui Ako in attendance. We were sorry to be missing many of our CHS leaders due to their exams.
Te Kaahui ako o Te Oko Horoi has been excited to see most schools valuing and participating in this initiative in 2022. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
