Unpacking Parawhau with Kaiako

Developing Kaiako confidence is key to ensuring that our aakonga are engaging in relevant and authentic learning. Before taking Ngaa Pou into your spaces, it is vital that you spend time, as a staff, unpacking the koorero within each pou.

Activate Prior Knowledge

In small groups, read the story, Parawhau, in Te Reo Maaori.

Highlight the kupu (words) that you know.

Translate kupu Maaori

Highlight the kupu that are unknown.

Use Te Aka to translate the words.

Use these translations to try to make sense of the story.

Check your translation against the English version of the story.

Use drama, music, blocks, or drawing to represent the key ideas in the story.
