The week before Solo/Ensemble Contest, students from the Tenino Band and Choir gather at the Tenino Presbyterian Church to perform their pieces as a dress rehearsal before the actual contest.
There are many small ensembles available for students to participate in at Tenino high School. Wind Symphony Members are required to be in small groups (such as Dat Young Sax Quartet, Melting Pot (Brass Quintet), Clarinet Choir) but other members may participate in Chamber Winds groups and other small performing ensembles. A jazz combo is usually formed as well to perform for social events around the community.
Located at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, this is the premier competition for high school musicians. Hours of lessons, practice and rehearsal have led to this point. Only the most superior musical performance from each category, representing all WMEA regions, will be performing at this venue. State Ensemble Contest is on the last Friday of April, and the State Solo Contest is on the last Saturday of April.
