6/4/23
It has been a busy term for us at Templestowe Park! We have been doing lots of thing to care for our school grounds and to help us learn sustainable habits. Here are some of the things that we have been doing…
They’re Calling You
This term we have been asking everyone in the school to bring in their old, unwanted and broken mobile phones. When we recycle our phones, we help to stop the mining of the minerals used to make phones. These minerals are located underneath gorilla habitat so, when the minerals are mined, the habitat is destroyed. Please donate your phones so we can help save our cousins, the gorillas. We are collecting the phones in the school office. Look for the box with the gorilla on it. Eggscellent Award
Now we’d would like to tell you about the Eggcellent Award. This award goes to one special person each assembly. We ask the teachers who is a student that is super sustainable and has nood food and remembers to compost. Then we will take all those names and put them into a raffle, and the name we draw will win the award. The award is a carton of eggs laid by our school chickens. So if you’d like to win the Eggscellent Award, remember to be sustainable!
And some news from Ms Tarlinton…
Grade 4 Kitchen Garden Program
The grade 4 students have been working hard in our gardens this term. They have been learning all about caring for our soil, how to identify and manage weeds and have been growing lots of tasty produce for cooking!
As you may have seen in our last blog post, the grade 4s harvested the potatoes that they grew last year. Over the past two weeks, we have been using these potatoes to make baked potatoes. We harvested lots of salad ingredients from the gardens to add to our potatoes including lettuce, parsley, spring onions, saltbush, spinach and calendula, an edible flower. The students practised lots of important cooking skills like maintaining good hygiene, using knives and other utensils safely, and washing up all their dishes.

What a great term we've had. That's all from us from now.
Have an exciting and safe holiday break!
10/2/23
Today, our grade 4 students harvested the potatoes that they planted back in August last year. The students have watched the seed potatoes sprout and grow over the past 6 months and were so excited to finally see how many potatoes they could harvest! It turned out to be a whole bucket load!
"I liked digging inside the soil with our trowels to find the potatoes. I felt happy while doing it because we were grabbing food for ourselves while helping the environment" - 4A student
Our students plan to cook with the potatoes in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for an update!
