Class Sustainability Representatives
Our Sustainability Representatives are experts in ensuring that TPPS’ Outdoor Eco Education Centre is a working and evolving learning space. Sustainability Reps are selected from Grades 1 - 6 and change each semester. The representatives undertake tasks such as planting, weeding, watering, caring for the school chickens and composting all our food scraps. The representatives are guided by a specialised Sustainability Teacher.
Year 3 / 4 Sustainability workshops
Our Grade 3 and 4 students are our sustainability specialists at TPPS!
All students in Grades 3 / 4 participate in workshops throughout the year.
Workshops focus on improving the biodiversity of our school and learning how to grow food that we can then cook with. The groups are guided by a specialised Sustainability Teacher and the classroom teachers.
Past achievements include: the establishment and maintenance of our production food garden and orchard, creating a pollinator garden and insect hotel, lizard lounge, the beginnings of a bush foods garden, and planting out our outdoor classroom with native plants.
Sustainability Club
Our Year 6 Sustainability Captains organise and lead a weekly Sustainability Club for any students who wish to participate! This year's focus was weeding our garden beds so our existing plants can flourish.
Whole School Sustainability Events
Our school participates in regular environmental events and days to create awareness about how we can best support our beautiful planet!
Events include: Earth Hour, National Recycling Week, National Tree Day, Hairy-Nosed Wombat Day, Clean Up Australia Day, World Environment Day, Red Poem Plant a Tree, Plant a Tree Day, BioBlitz, and Backyard Bird Count.
Prep Sustainability Day
Our Preps engage in a yearly ‘Prep Sustainability Day’ where they are introduced to the different elements of sustainability that we focus on at TPPS. Students engage in seed planting, waste sorting, a habitat hunt and learn how to engage with our school chickens.
Sustainability Focused Inquiry Units
All grade levels participate in sustainability focused inquiry units at TPPS. Students are provided with a ‘Compelling Question’ which they are then guided to investigate and present a project on.
Young Einsteins
Kinder students participate in our school garden by planting seeds and looking after our garden.
