It all began in post WWII France where Christian Dior wanted to inspire women to find joy and express themselves with fashion. Dior was not always a fashion designer, he started out running a small art gallery. During the war, he was forced to close his art gallery and he started to experiment with garments.
In 1946, the French designer founded Dior and three months later they were launching their first successful collection in Paris, France. Their collection featured the “New Look” which was a mid-length skirt paired with an accentuated waist and bust. Through these tough times, Dior wanted to bring excitement back to fashion. The post-war era was filled with dark and sorrowful times that his new collection established a new era for society.
The collection’s success confirmed Paris as a fashion capital and they expanded into the fragrance industry with their first perfume, Miss Dior. The company’s business opened their first London store in 1954 and quickly became an international success reaching over to the United States.
